We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful historical home. The staff were friendly with the perfect balance of being accessible without being intrusive. The star of breakfast was a delicious homemade quiche. An assortment of standard breakfast fare was also available.

The decor was perfect for a bed and breakfast. Enjoyed the breakfast, too!
Nice property, staff was nice and attentive when we first arrived, but didn’t see them much during our stay. Would have liked to have had the coffee bar refreshed and more water bottles available. The free alcohol and cigars was a nice added touch.
Booked a weekend getaway. We love the Inn! Its history, its beauty and location are fantastic! We loved our suite too! The Inn keeper was very nice and gave us privacy. Already planning our next visit!
Felt very safe, super clean. Amazing view, comfortable. Definitely will visit again soon

My husband and I stayed here on Sunday evening and had the whole house to ourselves. There were interesting things to explore both inside the house and on the surrounding property. The owners are doing a masterful job of restoring this historically significant place. Our room was comfortable and breakfast was wonderful. We were given a personal tour of the property and saw all that was being done to make this a venue for special events and getaways. We look forward to returning in the future to see how the newly planted fruit trees are doing and perhaps the restoration of a former vineyard will be underway! This friendly Inn is certainly worth a visit.
We stayed in the Smokey Mountain cabin and it was excellent. Very clean and had everything we needed. Beautiful view of the mountains and the stars at night were amazing. Dogs loved it as well! Would definitely recommend.
From the pictures on the website I thought you were secluded but you are not. You can hear the highway. Also did not feel safe that a motorcyclist came up riding through the property. The rug had dog hair all over it and blanket, sheet, and towels were not cleaned very good, some marks on them. Dishes were not cleaned well. Hair in the drain of the shower and dirt in the jet tub. Also on their website they said wood would be provided, you would have to call for it. I called and the lady told me to go buy it at Dollar General. I was very disappointed that they charged me twice when I paid on Expedia. Never again going through Expedia. Expedia charged more and poor communication with the property. The property also is out of state their management so be aware of that also.
Loved being in the cabin. It was very quiet and the scenery was beautiful. However, the only thing was, while taking a shower, the water went from hot to cold in the middle.
The sheets in one of the bedrooms has pubic hairs in it... making the bed unusable.... daughter has to sleep on futon couch. made us look more closely at everything else and the room could use a good cleaning. cobwebs galore... place smelled fine and looked okay at the beginning. would really like a partial refund as we booked this place because of the extra bed.
Great little cabin! Myself, my husband, 10 year old (he slept on the couch) & puppy stayed. We were the only people staying on the whole property which made it amazing! The kitchen is a little small for trying to cook but we made do. The mattress was a little too springy for me but overall we had a great time! We would recommend this place.
No one anywhere on the property except electrician who also could not get ahold of owner although they were expecting him. We had no electricity in our room. Toilet was in a closet. Big tear in couch in our room. After 2+ hours of waiting for information about electricity we were told owner was going to come in the following morning at breakfast to talk to us. Electrician left without talking to us or fixing the problem. We left and went to another hotel.

Not impressed
Balsam Mountain Cabin was tidy but not very clean. The loft needed dusted and vacuumed. The bathroom could use a good scrubbing as well. Furniture is a little threadbare. For the price per night I was expecting nice amenities.
The location of Engadine was lovely, views of the mountains and a convenient 20-min drive into Asheville. The cabin itself was cute and dog-friendly. However the management of this place was atrocious. There is no one there, no front desk, no housekeeping, nothing. Had to call three times (including a fourth call to Hotels.com customer service) for them to even send me check-in information. We waited over an hour after arriving to receive it. Had to call back several times after being told they sent the info. Do not choose "pay at the property" because no one is there to pay, and they won't send you your check-in information until you pay, which the lady on the phone did not inform me about until two calls later. Just hire someone to sit at a front desk when you know someone is checking in, it's not that hard. Beware although the view is lovely, you can easily hear highway traffic all night. If you can, I would recommend picking another place.
When we arrived at the property, there was nobody there at all, so we decided to wait until someone showed up. Still, nobody came, so I tried calling the owner three times, but they didn't pick up. I never received a call back either. If anything were to happen in the cottage or to us, there would be no way to reach anyone. Also, the cottage looked like nobody had been inside for a few months, and there was also a lot of noise from the highway. Eventually, we saw other people going into a cottage, so we approached them and asked how to get into the cottage. It turned out to be a woman who happened to work there, and she said we were lucky to have run into her because if we hadn't, we wouldn't have been able to access the cottage at all. Apparently, you need a code to get into the cottage, which we hadn't been given. The woman eventually called some sort of virtual assistance to get the code. She didn't even apologize to us for not receiving the code. It was very impersonal and unfriendly, giving the impression of simply making easy money and not making any effort for the guests. Therefore, we decided not to stay in the cottage and booked a hotel in another location instead.
Totally recommending the place....The location is fabulous !!! We stayed in a cabin up the hill which was facing the mountains. It was very private and super quiet. The view of the mountains early in the morning at sunrise was to die for. It was such a wonderful experience. Above and beyond from what we had read. And if you ever get the chance to eat their amazing homemade breakfast you will not regret it. My wife and I cannot talk enough about The Apple wood smoked bacon coated with brown sugar and pecans. When you take your first bite, you get a delicious explosion of flavors. The Inn is such a beautiful Victorian historical home. We are already planning on coming back next year at the peak of the fall foliage.
