Really enjoyable stay. Sunday roast and breakfast were particularly amazing (and included a treat for our dog). Modern bathroom and cosy room. All staff very friendly and helpful. Great base for walking - we will be back
stayed one night chose the Royal as it was close to where I going. The service was welcoming and friendly whilst the stair carpet could do with a clean the rooms were spotless and comfortable with an excellent shower. Good food served in the pub
Really large room bed so comfortable with loads of tea/coffee/hot chocolate, dog friendly, pub nice didn’t eat there we went into Ashbourne lots of choice there about 25 mins walk
We had a lovely stay with 6 friends. The staff were helpful and very friendly. We ate at the pub on both evenings. Food was really good. Good location just outside of Ashbourne

Overnight Alton towers break stay
A very welcoming overnight stay. Family room needs a bit of attention ie refurbishment but was very clean and main bed very comfortable. The children’s bed not as much but for one night it was fine.
Service and food was spot on. No complaints whatsoever. We would definitely stay again as was good value for money.
Only a one-night stay but service was excellent and very accommodating. The room was very clean and had all necessary en-suite facilities including Tea/Coffee making with essential biscuits.
Breakfast was included in the price but I was leaving at 5.15 in the morning to catch a balloon flight. The staff provided cereal to take to the bedroom overnight and offered to provide a sandwich if we were unable to arrive back before end of breakfast at 9.30.
Overall a very enjoyable stay with excellent friendly service. Highly recommended.

Good value for money
Loft room in the annexe was a little short on head room. Anyone taller than my 5’10 and you might struggle. Reasonably clean (dust web hanging from ceiling). Bed was soft and comfortable. Some road traffic noise. Food excellent with very generous proportions. Breakfast also very good. Overall it’s looking a little tired and ready for a makeover but our stay was very pleasant, the staff were very attentive and friendly and it represented excellent value for money for the budget conscious.
My room was in a building separate from the pub itself, up a flight of steep stairs, which was a bit tricky because there is a stair lift attached and very little room for carrying your suitcase. However, the room was comfortable and pleasant, very good shower, plenty of toiletries, refreshments etc. I ate in the bar each evening, good selection although not many vegetarian options - but beware the Brie/Apple/Walnut salad, it is enormous!! For breakfast there were adequate choices of cereals, a little fruit, and lots of cooked options. The staff were all excellent, hard-working, some even there at breakfast when they had also been on duty the night before. There is a big garden, outdoor eating area, rabbits in hutches, toys for children…decent car-parking. One drawback was the incessant whirring noise from the pub in the evenings, extractor fan maybe, and it didn’t cease until nearly midnight. But overall the Royal Oak was reasonably priced and comfortable, and a good base for walking in Dovedale etc.
Very friendly staff, the check in good, breakfast lovely. Were in room 4 which has a glass door to the on suite, this was a problem at night when the light was a sensor one so stayed on if we went to the loo so it lit up our bedroom. Could also see everything clearly if in use ! The tv also was not working which we reported the 2nd night but no one came to have a look. Having said that it was very good value for money and we would return.
Where do I start, quick check-in, that's where the positives end. Room dirty, dusty, stains on the carpet bedding, headboard and curtains. In the bathroom black mould, no toilet roll holder also no hand towels supplied.
Food and service - Had an evening meal in the restaurant, we ordered a shared starter then I ordered a burger meal and my wife a Steak. The starter was nice even though the garlic bread was actually just bread and not toasted. The burger I received was cremated, the bread bun was not toasted and just fell to pieces and had a large piece of lettuce root, finally the chips where just full of black eyes (bad bits). The Steak was over cooked and full of fat. The waitress was never around to complain and even got our drinks wrong at the start. They even tried to take our starters away twice before we had even finished.
The breakfast wasn't much better! didn't even bring us our toast and again the waitress was missing.
Owner were living above our room, they were stomping around, woke us up three times. Not a good experience. Complained and they gave us £20 off.. would have preferred a good nights sleep!

Nice stay
Room was a good size with all the required accessories. The tv reception was not very good and there were a number of flies in the room which detracted from the overall good rating. The bathroom could do with updating but was functional. We ate in the restaurant and the food was very good. The beer battered fish was superb as was the Bakewell tart.
Unfortunately we had to leave early in the morning for an event so didn't get to try the breakfast.
It was lovely and the people that looked after the venue were very polite. Called me to check before hand. Just would have liked to know it was feather pillows before hand.
