Many locals consider the home of Liverpool’s soccer team sacred, and on a game day it is one of the most exciting places in the city.

For many locals, this historic stadium is the most important structure in the city. The city of Liverpool is fanatical about their soccer, and the Anfield Road Stadium has been the home of the Liverpool Football Club since its formation in 1892. The stadium itself predates the football club by eight years, but was modernized regularly throughout the 20th century. Those lucky enough to get tickets to a match at the stadium will experience the vigor with which the Brits support their clubs. Visit on a quiet day to discover the history of the stadium and the Liverpool Football Club at the museum.Ā  The museum features photographs, videos and memorabilia dating back to the late 19th century, and outlines the history of the Liverpool Football Club. Pick up a cap or flag from the official store, just outside the museum.

Arrive early on game day to soak up the atmosphere around the ground. Large groups can be found congregating in the pubs and bars nearby. Hear the playful slogans and songs sung by local supporters as they get ready for the match. See two tributes to former Liverpool Football Club managers as you circumnavigate the stadium. A statue of Bill Shankly, considered one of England’s greatest managers, can be found outside the arena, while the Paisley Gateway honors Bob Paisley, a famous player and manager.Ā

With over 45,000 seats inside the stadium, the roar of the crowd can be deafening. See the four stands that make up the stadium, including the famous Spion Kop. This steep grandstand is for die-hard supporters and regularly hosts the most vocal fans.Ā

Anfield Road Stadium is located just minutes by metro from the city center. On game day parking is difficult to find, but some street parking is available early in the day. The stadium is open daily and tickets can be booked online.
