Shame about unruly posh children as this is a lovely hostel where I’ve stayed many times before . Running up and down the corridor all night these posh brats and their parents who couldn’t give a damn about the comfort and wellbeing of other people staying at the property

I was early to the check in time but they let me leave my bag in a storage room so i could go exploring without lugging it around. Also they helped me figure out the sunday bus schedule so i could see bamburgh castle. Loved how helpful they were!

Stayed many times before
Always a pleasure to stay in the hostel as it’s friendly to disabled and lgbt people I’m both . Kristen welcomed me back again who helps to run the hostel. Only niggle is the late check in time but the room 10 was massive and quiet in the former courthouse and police station where the hostel is now situated. Only minutes walk from Alnwick castle and the shops and restaurants and pubs .

Awesome. Two thumbs up!
We stayed as a family in a four bed (two bunkbeds) room. It was an amazing say. Great staff, awesome kitchen, and really really clean. You can tell they take pride in this facility. Walking distance to everywhere including the castle. Let us leave our baggage in the luggage room before and after our stay.

Great location in Alnwick, easy walk to the castle. Overall the hostel was in good condition with good shared facilities. The room was a bit small for a family with luggage.

My first hostel stay in 30 years - this time with family in tow - and it was wonderful. AYH is clean and clearly well run, and the staff were absolutely fantastic and friendly - and went out of their way to accommodate our requests (luggage storage, late breakfast order, random questions). We had a lovely time exploring Alnwick, visiting the castle, spending time in pubs and at Barter Books.

Alnwick Youth Hostel
Friendly welcome from helpful reception staff. Lots of notices around the hostel regarding Covid safety measures. Also lots of hand sanitiser dispensers throughout the accommodation, including a bottle in the dorm and another bottle in the en suite bathroom. The bed was comfortable with a really snug duvet. The dorm (and the bathroom) was spacious, with plenty of hangers and hooks for hanging from. One suggestion for improvement may be to install more sockets (or alternative USB charging points) in the rooms - in these days, everybody has one or more devices that needs to be charged! However, nothing to complain about really - the hostel is a great place to stay in central Alnwick, with all of the amenities of the town close by.

Alnwick Youth Hostel
We stayed one night. The family room with large en suite bathroom was big enough for the four of us, was warm, comfortable and clean. The staff were extremely nice and helpful. We had breakfast which was good for the price. As Youth Hostels go, this is one of the better ones I’ve stayed in. Alnwick itself is a delightful town.

Great base for exploring the Northumberland coast
Friendly, welcoming and helpful staff. Double bedroom and en-suite were spotlessly clean but remember to rent towels from reception when you check in if you are travelling light and haven’t brought your own. However, this only added a grand total of £2 to my bill! I had a room at the back of the hostel and there was no sound of bells that other reviewers have mentioned. Bus stops (with timetable notices) heading north to Berwick (including x18 and 418 coastal route service) and south to Warkworth and Amble are literally on the doorstep, so this was an excellent base if you’re reliant on public transport Very well equipped kitchen if you are making your own meals plus comfy social areas. Would definitely stay here again if visiting Northumberland in the future.

Alnwick Youth Hostel
Alnwick Youth Hostel is a very friendly and comfortable place to stay, right in the centre of Alnwick. As many guests may do, we travelled by bike - and the bikes were kept securely overnight in the hostel (in a classroom room). The room was clean, reasonably spacious, and had comfortable bunk beds. The shower in the en suite bathroom was pretty good too. We enjoyed a cooked breakfast in the dining room, along with cereal, fruit juice, toast, and tea/coffee. Reception staff were very welcoming and helpful. Everything about our stay was great!
On the way to Alnwick - not far to go now!

Great location, info could be better
Really liked the hostel, the room was a good size, all very clean and location was great. Only snag was that the property website said we could check-in until about 10pm, when it's actually 7pm (roughly....could have been 6pm and 9pm, but either way was a few hours difference!). I had a bit of a panic when I got a call on the train saying reception would close in 5 minutes and I was a few hours away. Thankfully a lockbox option was available and that was communicated well.

The pictures provided of this property only show the recently renovated areas. This place is filthy nasty!! The beds are old and falling apart literally duck taped and we have children! It was dirty and everything from the pillows to the couches in the lounge are old dirty and nasty. Honestly the worst hostel we have ever stayed in and we have stayed in 19 different countries using hostels the whole way and this out of all the 30 plus places we stayed was the worst. Don't waste your time, money, or energy trying to get to this place it is totally not worth it!

We are always disappointed by poor and critical reviews with fair comments, but we are entitled to reject unfair and rather nasty, anonymous stuff like this, motivated by who knows what. I quote below from a review on another site from 6 March that typifies the vast majority so far, “..One of the best hostels we have stayed in and we have stayed in more than half of England’s YHAs and several abroad.....modern clean and well maintained”. As a new manager that is what I hope for and expect in the light of almost all recent ratings of this hostel. No wonder the public is mistrustful of some reviews. I can only ask any doubters to visit and tell us what they think. Sheets are all freshly laundered and ought to be pristine, though the bedding is indeed a few years old and replacements are going in room by room. The interior most certainly is not dirty and is cleaned and inspected daily - our food hygiene is meticulous and awarded the council’s highest grading of 5. Come and see for yourself and tell me I am wrong.

Great location to explore Alnwick Castle,Alnmouth and further (we made a train day trip to Durham from here). Friendly ans helpful staff and good facilities like the games room, lounge, kitchen and dining room. Would definitely recommend.
