"Overall clean room. Not fancy but ok for a short Tarleton weekend. The inside has been redone but the bathroom could have a little more done- like covers on vents and door that will close. I will stay here again because the price is right and we spend very little time in our room when we visit my daughter st school. "

"In all reality, for someone that’s in town just for work, it’s a great place to stay. They clean your room, replace used towels and do your bed. Restrooms a little small, sometimes slightly noisy outside environment due to the place being next to an intersection. But if you’re just looking for a comfortable bed with hot showers, great a/c, cable tv, and parking right in front of your room, all at the best price you can find in Stephenville, this is your place. "

"Hotel was under renovation without any notice prior to arrive. Had to ask for everything including soap. Realized when ready for coffee, no cups. No carpet or baseboards in hallway. Everything was dirty with drywall dust. Air conditional was marginal at best. Asked for a different floor but apparently all floors were the same. Asked for a lower rate based on conditions but only received a token reduction. I have never written a review like this, so conclude what you want. Not a good...

"I hotel is in poor shape, the door safety latch had half of it missing, the door to the room was bent, the swimming pool was not open nor did it appear it would be anytime soon as if had algae growing in it. The website said free breakfast, there was none. The hotel overall looks rundown"

Thurber, Texas - population about 10 - is considered to be Texas' premier ghost town. Here's why: barely 100 years ago, Thurber used to have 9,000 residents. Today, it's merely a pit stop on Interstate 20. Thurber began as a company-owned town. The Texas and Pacific railroad owned the mineral rights to the vast (and only) bituminous coal deposits in Texas, and lured thousands of skilled coal miners from the north and from Europe to get it out. Setting up a small settlement ringed by tree-covered hilltops, Thurber, which was named after one of the majority shareholders in the company, quickly grew as businesses set up shop.
