Learn more about Afton

Nestled in the Salt River Range, this welcoming town boasts the world's largest elkhorn arch. Hike to the mysterious Periodic Spring, where water flows intermittently in cycles, especially late summer/fall through winter/spring.

Afton’s Elkhorn Arch is 18 feet high and made of 3000 elk (Wapiti) antlers. The arch was finished in 1958, taking two years to complete at a cost of $2,500.00 plus many hours of volunteer time. The antlers, shed by elk every spring were gathered at a nearby elk reserve.
