Ushguli (in the Svaneti region in northwestern Georgia) is a community of four villages, and claims to be the highest permanently inhabited settlement in Europe. Ushguli is inhabited by an ethnic group called the Svans and is characterised by its Svan towers - used as familial living quarters, fortified fortresses of defense, and personal treasuries. “Atmospheric” is how this place was described to me before we went to Ski there. “As long as you don’t mind getting some cow shit on your ski boots” was the rest of the description we received. The roads through town were 4x4 and wild horses groomed the grassy slopes below the 16,000 ft peaks above. This place seems preserved, culturally and naturally. A gem of a mountain village hidden deep inside the county of Gorgia, a place I plan to return to asap.

The stay was good. The guesthouse a little bit far from the center but the town is really small. The really big bonus was that the owner knew english!

Worth to stay
Rooms are clean and quiet, nice place to stay after the four days hike. Staffs are helpful and warm, specially the breakfast lady, love her so much. A bit far from the bus station, around 20mins walk, but it's worth it.
