"Lovely hotel, very quirky and chintzy decor in keeping with the historic Yale vibe. The staff were polite and helpful at times. On arrival I had two large suitcases and was disappointed to note that there was no option but to carry them up five or six concrete steps inside the hotel. There was a member of staff behind the desk, doing nothing, who watched me without at any point offering to help. Two lovely lady guests however gave me assistance. After an incredibly noisy and sleepless first night due to the ever present sound of motorcycles going up and down the main road, I asked to be moved to a quieter room. This couldnt be honoured as the hotel was apparently fully booked but on speaking to the manager he agreed to move me the following night. He did - after commenting that I was staying in a city so I should expect some noise (there is noise and then there is a complete lack of sound proofing) - offer me a white noise machine which I have to say was amazing and made it possible for me to stay in the same room for the duration of my stay. There is, however, clearly a noise issue with rooms in this hotel that face the main road. Had I done some more investigation it would have become clear that Chapel Street in New Haven is notorious for extremely loud traffic noise. Surely to provide a white noise machine without guests having to complain would be an idea. I will not stay here again due to these issues which is a shame as the hotel itself is quite charming."
