I liked the isolation of the hotel and the friendliness of the staff and locals. A comfortable room with nice en suite. The breakfast (cereal, toast etc.) included was a real bonus and a chance to meet other travelers. Also it was very good value for money!

Classic country hotel. Lots to like. Nice ensuite room and good sized lounge (with lovely fire!) just down the hallway. Plenty of evening meal options at the bar. Good selection for the continental breakfast next morning too - great way to end our stay. Thanks Waipiata Hotel!

I love the friendliness of this country pub, the publican has the easy going attentive manner, the food is amazing. Id wanted to come and stay for a while since i had previously lived in duntroon and on occassion gone for a ride with others over danseys for the day and they had introduced me to waipiata country hotel, i liked going there from the first day i stepped in the door. Id always wanted to have dinner here rather than a quick lunch. It didnt disappoint.

Excellent one night stay (rail trail)

We had an excellent one night stay while on the rail trail. Very friendly and helpful staff, nice beds, good water pressure, fast wifi, covered bike parking, nice outdoor spaces, great continental breakfast which even included granola with dried raspberries, fresh fruit and plunger coffee. Hotel guests have nice shared lounge. Overall one of our finest and most memorable stays in NZ over a month of travel this trip. Couples: cheese platters available. Cyclers: Rooms include the continental breakfast, free laundry available (self-serve), ample filtered drinking water for water bottles, 50 meters off the trail. Not connected to the room itself but important to note: the pub has excellent food and drinks at a very fair price. The pies are house-made and excellent--we did Thai Lamb and Pumpkin-Spinach-Feta. The place was pretty busy on a Monday night with locals--always a great sign!
