We have been staying at Hotel Emporio for many years, as it used to be a place we enjoyed returning to. Unfortunately, our experience has been getting worse each year, and this year was by far the most disappointing.
First, the room we were given did not lock properly. We called reception five times to ask for maintenance, but no one came. As a result, we had to carry our luggage with us when leaving for a tour — something unacceptable in a hotel of this category.
The dining experience was also very poor. I ordered an arrachera steak that had nothing to do with arrachera and was completely inedible. Coffee served both in the club lounge and in the restaurant tasted like a brown soup with no aroma or flavor of coffee. The wine list looks extensive, but in reality, from the many listed wines, only two were available.
In addition, one of the rooms had a broken air conditioning system. Maintenance filled it with gas, which made it work for one day, only for it to fail again.
All these issues together — poor service, lack of maintenance, bad food and beverage quality — made our stay extremely disappointing. It is sad to see how the hotel’s standards have declined year after year. We truly hope management takes these issues seriously, because as long-time loyal guests, we would like to see Hotel Emporio return to the level of quality it once had.
