  • Day 1 of my road trip across the USA brought me to my favorite city in Florida, St. Augustine; the oldest city in the country, and easily one of the most beautiful. 👇🏽 I snapped this shot at Fort Mose Historic State Park. This incredible site is a U.S. National Historic Landmark, and the rich history of this place is something that every school should be teaching our youth. 👇🏽 Hidden away in the marshes of St. Augustine is one of the most important sites in American history: the first free community of ex-slaves, founded in 1738 and called Gracia Real de Santa Teresa de Mose or Fort Mose (pronounced Moh-Say). Fort Mose played an extremely important role in the development of colonial North America. 👇🏽 As early as 1687, the Spanish government had begun to offer asylum to slaves who managed to escape from British colonies (the first Underground Railroad ran SOUTH to Florida from the colonies!). In 1693, the Spanish Crown officially proclaimed that runaways would find freedom in Florida, in return for converting to Catholicism and a term for men of four years' military service to the Crown. In effect, Spain created a maroon settlement in Florida as a front-line defense against English attacks from the north. Spain also intended to destabilize the plantation economy of the British colonies by creating a free black community to attract slaves seeking escape and refuge from British slavery. 👇🏽 Fort Mose was the first free African settlement legally sanctioned in what would become the United States and had a total population of about 100. The village had a wall around it, with dwellings inside, plus a church and an earthen fort. 👇🏽 The history of Fort Mose is far deeper, and far more interesting then I can convey on @Instagram so please do your own reading on it and learn more about the very earliest history of what is now the United States.

Not a 3 star hotel, more of a motel feel, the outdoors is really run down. Room at least it shows they are trying to make updates. We had to call to get wifi, and they reuse the room key holders …just give people a new clean card holder and stop being cheap.

Localização boa , acomodação razoável, limpeza pessima, na chegada o banheiro está muito molhado o piso, solicitei assistência. Enviaram um funcionário alcoolizado e parecia estar sob efeito de substâncias pesadas pelo comportamento e cheiro . Talvez a direção possa rever estes pontos para atender melhor.

La habitacion estaba en buenas condiciones para una estancia corta,el personal de la recepcion muy buena disposicion de como ayudar al huesped,los servicios como maquina de hielo a disposicion en la parte tracera de la recepcion ,ademas cruzando la avenida san marcos en la esquina buses gratis cada 15 minutos hacia el centro del pueblo en temporada de navidad y año nuevo recomiendo para una estancia corta este hotel pues me fue facil para visitar el centro del pueblo y bien tranquila el area donde se encuentra

Amazing time spent at the Travelodge By Wyndham, the owners are very welcoming, the room size is perfect and the area is biking distance from historic district. Would stay at the same room or get a loft when they are available. there is a coffee shop right behind the Hotel. this place has history and its a quiet area if that what you enjoy. would recommend this place to stay.

Our stay at Travelodge was overall good, with a few areas that could be improved. The mattress was comfortable, though the pillows and comforter weren’t as great. The room had all amenities, which made the stay convenient. However, the curtains did not block light properly because of their length and width, so the room stayed brighter than expected at night. The bathroom wasn’t ideal. Water splashed a lot, the floor got messy quickly, and there was no proper ventilation. I also slipped in the tub because there was no anti-slip mat, so adding one would help. A towel rod inside the shower area would also be useful. The front desk lady was polite and guided us about the shuttle. Still, one comment felt strange. She said, “since your ancestors are from India, I am giving you a big big room,” even though we had booked and paid for that exact room type. It’s friendly, but confusing when what we paid for is presented as a favor. Housekeeping was unclear. The website mentions daily service, but when my husband requested it, the reaction made it seem like we were asking for something extra, although it was eventually done. Also, be prepared to pay with a card that has the same name as the booking, as they are strict about this. Overall, it was a good stay.

It was good. Room was really clean and everything in the room worked. Fridge could be bigger. Ice maker out side didn’t work and parking is tough with a bigger vehicle.. was quite with a little noice from others. Would come here again..
