Set around Bavaria’s largest mountain lake is a village renowned for its well-groomed ski runs, superb snow park and summer hiking opportunities.

Stunning natural beauty and outdoor pursuits welcome vacationers and daytrippers to Spitzingsee. This laid-back village sits on the eastern shores of Lake Spitzingsee in the shadow of forest-covered mountains. At Spitzingsee, ski in winter, hike in summer and experience centuries-old Bavarian customs at cultural festivals year-round.

As part of the Spitzingsee-Tegernsee Ski Area, the village features numerous winter sports. Chairlifts travel up from the west side of the lake into the heart of a perfectly groomed ski terrain. The slopes of Stümpfling Mountain are great for first-time skiers and popular with visiting families. Take lessons with qualified and skillful instructors.

Ride lifts to the adjoining Rosskopf Mountain for runs suitable to more advanced skiers and snowboarders. Test your freestyling skills at the Snowpark, which has a variety of boxes, kickers and rails. Professional skiers often come here to practice. Take a break at the mountaintop restaurant and admire the magnificent views from its outdoor terrace.

During the summer, the mountains’ hiking trails present a series of relaxed and challenging walks. Traverse forested valleys and meadows, which bloom with colorful wildflowers. Look toward the woodlands and skies for wildlife, such as golden eagles.

Take a gentle stroll around the lake and gaze up at soaring peaks from the comfort of a waterfront bench. Listen to Bavarian oompah bands, watch folk dancing displays and sample beer straight from the barrel at lakeside festivals.

Reach Spitzingsee by flying to Munich and then renting a car. Stay overnight at a cozy lakefront guesthouse or hotel. Extend your stay to visit nearby Rottach-Egern and Tegernsee, picturesque towns along Lake Tegernsee.

"Love staying here and always enjoy my visit! My only concern this time is that the hot water heater for tea/coffee in the room was very old and was shedding plastic inside the pot when water was heated. That urgently needs to be replaced!"
