Small but nice hotel
It locates on city center and very convenient for sightsee, shopping and many choices of restaurant. Only one thing is the room is between two floors and only has stair. It is not good if you have big luggage with you.

Had booked 2 nights (28th, 29thOct) in a double room. Arrived on the evening of the 28th to be told they had no available double rooms, despite the fact i had paid almost a month in advance. Was informed they could put me up in a double room in the hotel next door for the first night, then return to my original hotel for the second night. When I declined this as i did not want to have to move between hotels, i was offered a twin room which I begrudgingly accepted. Upon entering the room i discovered two single beds, one of which i was reluctant to consider using as the wall mounted headboard was only secured at the top and i did mot want to risk it falling on me during the night. The bathroom ceiling was covered in black mould spots. The window frame rattled whenever there was a light breeze which made getting sleep difficult. The breakfast was reasonable and the staff were polite enough. Sadly those two things in no way make up for what was a massively disappointing experience. Based on my experience i would certainly NOT recommend this particular hotel.

The hotel staff told us when we arrived that they had a plumbing issue and could not offer us a room. They arranged a cab to pick us up and take us to another hotel which cost about 30 pounds more per night. The Mercure paid for the cab ride and the extra cost of the hotel. They also offered us beverages in the cozy bar while we waited for the cab. We were impressed by the excellent service.

The room was cleaned every day, along with the bedding and towels when required extras, the bed was nicely made by the staff. Bar staff were excellent, nice selection of gins

The reservation was all wrong. They were full when I booked so instead of honoring a refund, they just kept our money anyway. I hope they didn’t double sell our room since that is NOT when we wanted booked. What a rip-off! I will never forget this nor will I forgive Expedia for allowing this to happen.

You might end up in Student Halls
This is a great location for anything you are doing in Southampton. We have stayed twicw within the last two weeks. First time all fine, second time in Room 23 with Students having a lste night early morning party in 21.i understand using spare rooms for student accommodation is revenue for the Hotel but at least try to keep regulsr guests who want ti sleep away from them. Breakfast is good but hard fried eggs are not appealing

Staff are super friendly and cannot do enough for you. I have stayed at this hotel many times as I like the staff, the location and car parking. The hotel room was very noisy, I was on the ground floor and could hear people outside on their phones, the windows didnt shut properly and there was no room service (there has been in the past)

Central Hotel
Very nice hotel in the centre of Southampton. Convenient for the cruise terminals and places to look round and eat. Finding entrance to car park a challenge. Suggest you phone the hotel in advance to get the precise sat nav location.

Central location ,lobby & bar area clean & tidy but room although generally clean smelt damp & the decor in the bathroom could be improved peeling plaster on ceiling & could do with painting.

Not as good as it has been
I ha to cut my stay short but I was no impressed by the room.The bedside lights appeared not to work; the carpet was damaged near the door; the cold water ran warm at first; it was very noisy until quite late at night. I have been an infrequent visitor to the hotel since the mid-1970s and seen it in many incarnations. This was far from the best.

Despite booking a Privileged room, the room was very much of standard quality. It was not very clean, the toilet system was broken you had to put your finger in the hole to flush the toilet very unhygienic. Only one English tea bag which we only saw on when we got up on the Sunday morning. The coffee sachets we of poor quality. The bath had a chip out of it and hand rail to help people using the shower, no anti slip. TV kept going off. So you can see we did not have a very good stay with the hotel. It’s not somewhere I would boom again. Plus side it’s close to the city centre. A very disappointing visit and certainly not worth the £203. I paid!

I'm not really sure where to start, the hotel is nothing more than a budget hotel at very best and we paid £177.00 per night, on arrival into the Reception we were quite pleased, we then went to room 127, oh my god is all I can say, I was actually in shock I had to sit on the bed, so claustrophobic and the smallest room I have ever seen. It was my birthday weekend and was instantly upset about the size and condition, we did book a standard double but this was taking the mick, there were holes in the wall as seen attached file. My fiance not liking me being upset went to reception where he said we want to be moved or have a full refund and we would go elsewhere, we were moved to room 16 which we were told was the biggest standard double available. It was alot bigger but so so tired chipped paint everywhere, and still not worthy of the price tag, it was boiling hot so we quickly unpacked and went straight out, on returning in the evening, we opened the windows to let some air in, it was unbearably hot, the pathetic excuse for a fan was not worth turning on and when we did it made clonking noises and at one point came off the spindle. We had to sleep with the door open and keep the fire exit open to let air in but this also meant that hundreds of flies we seemed to be by the laundry room so that came with noise from 7am. Got up first morning to find no toiletries in the bathroom, so my fiance

Give it a miss.
This is supposed to be a Mercure - it drags that name down. Old building doesn't mean it has to be grubby - but it is. Stained ceilings, bathrooms where showering will soak the floor no matter what you do, the bed is the softest and most uncomfortable things you'll sleep on. Soap not refilled in shower (so housekeeping not checking these basic things). £120 for this - premier inn is miles better. Pros - friendly staff, parking cheap at £5 for 24 hours. Good location.
