With Malaysia’s premier motorsports stadium, villages, plantations and beaches, you can catch the Grand Prix or see what life is like outside Kuala Lumpur.

Sepang is a district insouthern Malaysia about 37 miles (60kilometers) from Kuala Lumpur. It’s best known as the site of the SepangInternational Circuit, which hosts the Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix, theMotorcycle Grand Prix and much more. The district is also home to the immenseKuala Lumpur International Airport. Despite all the high-tech infrastructure,you’ll also find small villages, plantations and a beach community at BaganLalang. 

Get yourself a ticket andsee a race at the Sepang International Circuit. Seats at the stadium areaffordable, and races run year round. If your timing is right, you’ll seeworld-class racing such as Formula One, Motor GP and Super GT. If you want acloser look at the track, you can even organize a tour. For an extra bit offun, check out the stadium’s go-kart track. You can choose a simulated FormulaOne-style session or just go for a few freestyle laps. 

After the race, head outinto the countryside to see palm oil plantations and visit local villages. Stopby Sungai Pelek and explore the town. You’ll find some quaint old buildings,cheap food and some interesting shops. Check out the nearby dragon fruit farmto taste the odd-looking but delicious fruit.

Carry on towards the oceanto get to Bagan Lalang, a beach-side town being developed into an ocean-frontresort area. Hit the white sandy beach and go for a dip, or just sit back andrelax. You can rent out boats or canoes, and fishing enthusiasts are free todrop a line and try their luck. Bird watchers will spot several migratoryspecies. When it’s time for lunch, try the local seafood restaurant and grab afreshly cut coconut. 

Sepang is an up-and-comingdistrict just outside the Malaysian capital. It's the country’s top motorsportsdestination, but also a place to catch a glimpse of life outside themetropolis.
