The property was fine and clean. The pool are was nice. The lighting in the room is horrible. We requested a cover for the exposed LED lights in the restroom and were told maintenance would get back to us the next day and we never heard from anyone. The parking lot needs to be worked on, there are a lot of put holes.

I'll start by saying that I like this place, and have stayed here several times. The rooms are huge, the entire venue is smartly decorated, and the grounds are beautiful. There are fun and interesting events planned throughout the month, and the pool club is well maintained and equipped with a bar. However, expectations should be lowered regarding staff service and interactions (I've come to accept this, and simply adjust my expectations when staying here). There is a lot of "hipster aloof" and the so-called "Millennial stare" going on. You may find yourself standing in front of the check-in counter, the wonderful La Reina bar, or the Turquoise Trailer without being acknowledged by staff people, or perhaps waiting for the end of a cell phone conversation. There are exceptions, of course, and I've had wonderful encounters with many staff people over the years. Nonetheless, it's worth preparing for. There also seems to be a preference for local patrons in the bar. In spite of this, I recommend staying here, and will continue to stay here myself.

We LOVED El Rey. In fact, I’m actually wearing the hat I got from their GOATed souvenir shop right now; It’s legitimately a great looking design, which speaks to their overall aesthetic – very proudly southwestern but with a midcentury vibe that’s both classic and on trend. Rooms are comfortable and stylish. Hot tub is GOATed; I’ll attach some pics. El Rey is the best! There’s maybe one other place in town that I would even consider staying, but ER is probably more my style and is definitely more affordable.

Nice people. Had a big room. Comfortable bed. Good shower. Live music. Nice places to sit outside. Good breakfast place and ice cream walkable. Dresser drawers a bit wonky and in need of new paint job. Nice place to stay for families, pets or people who don’t want to be cooped up in a hotel room. Nice grounds.

The property is really nice. They’ve done a good job of landscaping and maintaining space. Just keep in mind that it’s built in 1933 so you can hear everything. The windows are as if they’re open when they’re closed. The towels are terrible. But the bed was comfortable. The location is really great.

One of the Worst Stays on Route 66 – A Historic Letdown We were so excited to stay at this historic hotel, especially as vintage lovers traveling Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles. Unfortunately, this ended up being the most expensive hotel of our entire trip—and by far the worst. We arrived tired but happy after traveling on motorcycles, just wanting to rest. Instead, we were bombarded with extremely loud music from a surprise “queer party” that no one had warned us about. The thumping bass went on and on, making rest completely impossible. It wasn’t just the lobby that was off-limits for a quiet moment—we couldn’t enjoy the bar either, and even outside the hotel, the music was blaring. There was nowhere to escape it. For a place with such rich history and atmosphere, this felt like a disrespect to its legacy. It didn’t stop there. My travel companion got food poisoning from a pork sandwich at the food truck on site—beware. In the room, my curtain literally fell on me, and the coffee machine didn’t work at all. Basic maintenance seems to be an afterthought. We had high expectations for this historic property, but it’s clear it’s not being run with the care it deserves. The charm and vintage appeal were completely overshadowed by poor service, lack of communication, and bad management. Truly disappointed. Route 66 travelers and history buffs: spend your money elsewhere until this place gets its act together.

The room was styled well, clean, and spacious. The whole property is beautiful. While not high-end luxurious, it is an honest and creative update to a long-storied motor lodge. The staff was great, as was the bar and the band. Thank you, el Rey Court, for your hospitality and a nice stay.
