Better than reported, not that great though.

The online 1-star rating is not really justified. Although basic, this place is worth the $55 fee. The Hotels.com experience is to be avoided, they overcharged on the rate. The room was basic, the bed below average, but seeing the many species and number of sea birds in the early morning is a treat. The dirt driveway to the site is a biet of a pain.

Owner was a super kind guy. Room was small, dirty and full of bugs. Felt very over priced. Restaurant had good food, hard to communicate as no staff speaks english but its understandable! No shuttle or way to transport into town. We had to hitch hike and we ended up leaving early cause it was so inconveniently located. Place has lots of potential. Could be a super rad get away/ party place with some love.

Run down

Hibiscus Garden is managed by well meaning volunteers with a limited budget and is located in an ever growing jungle next to a muddy bay. The saving grace was the excellent fish served for dinner. All in all, a disappointing and over priced experience. Only stayed one night rather than the two for which we had reserved.Some guests in the communal kitchen were too loud until late into the night right under one of the rooms our party occupied.

for the price of $33/day one should not complain.

However, the meals at the hotel were outrageously expensive, almost double what they were worth. I had ordered for breakfast ham and eggs for $6.00. the eggs were okay but the ham was of a cheap quality. bread was good. the beach behind us was very muddy so did not go in. as for the staff, they were all nice except the german fellow who served us. he had a poor attitude as if to say, take it or leave it. he wanted to charge me .50 cents for jam which, normally is included in the breakfast. nickel and diming us to death. The only good thing about this place was the price of a room at $33/day. Other hotels at santa catalina were all very expensive.

This is a remote jungle getaway that is authentic.

The lack of amenities in this remote location is quickly made up for by friendly staff and fellow travelers. The chef is amazing and makes up fantastic meals at a reasonable price in this rustic getaway best suited for backpackers and seasoned travelers.

Ruhiges Anlage außerhalb von Santa Catalina

Wir waren sechs Nächte im Hibiscus Garden und hatten für 5 Nächte zunächst das günstigste und damit auch kleinste DZ mit geteilter Toilette und Dusche gebucht. Das Zimmer war ausreichend, aber mit zwei Taschen muss man sich organisieren. Es verfügt über einen Ventilator. Das Bad und die Toilette hätten besser geputzt werden können, aber da wir die einzigen Nutzer waren, war es noch okay. Direkt vor dem Zimmer ist eine Küche mit Kühlschrank in der man auch kochen kann, wenn man jedoch ohne Auto ist, ist es schwierig Zutaten zu besorgen. Außerdem war das Essen im Restaurant so göttlich, dass wir uns schon im Voraus auf jede Mahlzeit gefreut haben. Raffy, der Koch hat wahnsinnig leckere Gerichte und vor allem sehr frisch, gezaubert. Frisches Thuna Cheviche oder auch das Thun Steak waren mega lecker. Auch das Frühstück kann sich sehen lassen. Die Familie ist sehr nett und hat drei Kinder und hat uns bei allem unterstützt und es war immer wieder nett mit ihr zu plaudern. Als uns der Shuttle nach Boquete einen Tag nicht abholte und unser altes Zimmer gebucht war, organisierten sie alles für uns und gaben uns sogar ein Upgrade Zimmer zum gleichen Preis. (Lieben Dank nochmal dafür). Alles in allem ein schöner Ort, um mal einige Tage einfach die Seele baumeln zu lassen. Ein paar Dinge in der Anlage müssten allerdings mal wieder erneuert werden.
