Cooked breakfast options were tasty with good quality local produce. Some fresh fruit would have been a nice addition. Room was clean and fairly quiet though the hotel was far from full when we stayed last night. Could clearly hear doors banging in the room next door. Bed faintly lumpy but I slept quite well. Lots of hot water for a lovely jacuzzi bubble bath. Staff all friendly and helpful. Dinner portions huge. Sorry not to have discovered the hotel sooner as it's due to close.

This is a charming property in a small quaint town. The grounds and room were very nice. The owner greeted us upon arrival and the staff was attentive. For a small inn, there is an amazing restaurant on site. I highly recommend Blackaddie House if visiting the area.

Very nice and the owner and service staff was fun. The food was great and the gardens were so pretty. Good place if going from Dumfries to Glasgow and need a intermediary place to stay. The service people were funny and pleasant also. Great place to drink Shackleford Whiskey!

Blackaddie is very comfortable country hotel. We stayed two nights in pheasant, and found the accommodation to be quite a very high standard. The bed was very large and comfortable but slightly firm. There is a lovely view over the garden towards the river. We ate in the hotel both evenings and couldn’t understand why it wasn’t busier as both meals were delicious.

Give them a try you won’t regret it!

Staff excellent, friendly and helpful. Evening meal excellent as good as Michelin starred restaurants I have eaten at. Breakfast good. Minor scratches and marks on decor no more than in a normal home. Strange omission no fridge in the room, never stayed in a hotel room or air b&b that didn’t have one before.

Perfect peaceful stay

Lovely comfortable hotel. Well maintained. We stayed in Snipe room which is compact but ok for a night or 2. Bed comfortable nice Elemis toiletries. The only suggestion would be to add a towel holder next to the bathroom sink. Breakfast was delicious, good quality produce and just the right amout.

Brilliant - relaxing!

We stayed in Mallard. It was very comfortable with a lovely view of the Nith and field full of ewes and lambs. Breakfast was absolutely delicious with lots of choice. Nice to be served. Very friendly staff.

Service and amenities needs to improve

Blackaddie is a beautiful building, with a sophisticated interior and gorgeous food in a lovely place. Where it needs to improve is in communication with guests-I was staying there alone and I was locked out one night. The owner came quickly but I had no knowledge of this. I was actually really upset at the time and after about it. It scared me. My room was small as expected for the price and nicely done out but it lacked amenities. In the beverages offered, and also things like an iron and hairdryer. I enjoyed the Elemis products but they weren’t replaced and my bed was neither made, nor serviced properly for cups. I had a cup of tea in the same cup the next again day. The best thing about Blackaddie is the house, the dining room, the bar and the food. When I asked for things they were given to me but wifi access was not visible in the room. When I asked, I was told it was there. It wasn’t. Unfortunately, the bed was also uncomfortable. I think it has all the potential but with my experience it is not currently 4 stars, and this is what I was expecting.

Good place to stay overnight for bed and breakfast. Plenty of parking. Room and bathroom small but comfortable, nice toiletries and fruit in room. Very quiet as very few guests. Well stocked bar.

Gem of a find

Second visit here recently and noticed no difference in level of care and attention. The hosts are simply amazing. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for accommodation in or around Sanquhar. Food is amazing too. It would 100% be my go to if I ever needed to be back in the area. Gardens and river view are great for a post breakfast walk.

Fabulous Blackaddie country house.

We booked for a 2 night stay and were made so welcoming and friendly pn arrival. Fabulous room and ensuite beautifully clean and comfortable. Lovely flowers fruit and homemade shortbread made it a special treat. Delicious food and friendly host .Will definitely book again.A must for a quiet break away.This is a littke gem tucked away in lovely surroundings. .
