「Great location, it is only 2 mins away from Semuc Champey National Park Entrance and opposite to the cave. But be aware that there is no wifi, no hot water provided in the hostel. Electricity is limited from 12 noon to 1pm and 7pm to 11pm. The rest of time is lack of electricity. Food options are also limited. No restaurant is nearby. The redtaurant in the hostel is the only choice uou have in that area. The environment itself is excellent and surrounded by the jungle and river view underneath....

Nos recibió Manuel, el día que llegamos super tarde, y nos esperaba para acomodarnos, sabía muy bien que íbamos con una niña pequeña, así que un muy buen recibimiento. Los dormitorios muy bien aseados y se notaba que estaban bien fumigados, sin insectos ni nada, a pesar de estar en la selva, las comidas del restaurante muy buenas en relación calidad y precio. Muy acogedor el entorno y entretenido para andar con niños.」

「Great few days spent here! I recommend staying 2-3 nights... depending on when you arrive, because I highly recommend Semuc Champey and the bat caves (Grutas de Lanquin) which are hard to do in the same day. El Retiro made meals and excursions very worry-free. My only negatives would be the lack of hot water and the cleanliness of the bed, room. It wasn’t very dirty... just wasn’t very clean. Overall a very enjoyable few days spent in Lanquin.」

「I expected this place to be basic and the two staff running the place were lovely and it is close to Semuc, about an hour’s walk. But it was a challenging place to stay. There is literally nowhere to put your stuff - no shelves, no hooks, no mirror. Food was bad, no tortillas, no plantains, no cheese. No purified water forcing you to buy plastic bottles in the rainforest. Also they will pick you up at Lanquín and bring you to property but charge you to return and increase the agreed price once...
