The view from our room was gorgeous and the enclosed balcony with heater was an unexpected bonus. The room was nice but thought the bathroom looked ‘tired’. From previous reviews, I thought the hotel would feel much more special than it did. We were here to celebrate a special birthday ( which the hotel were aware of) but that seemed to pass them by. Dinner in the evening was ok ( the staff were very pleasant) but again, I’d hoped the food would be excellent and it wasn’t. The cooked breakfasts were very good and served quickly and hot.

Lovely hotel set on South Sands beach. Room nice - we had one looking out over road and car park - seaview ones more expensive. Walls are thin and you hear the plumbing system in morning when others are using their bathrooms. Breakfast is a delight, overlooking the sea and choice is excellent. You can take the boat from the beach to Salcombe town fir under a fiver. We did it one-way and walked back. Lovely coastal walk just over a mile so not too far. Road access to the hotel is quite challenging as they are very narrow and steep.

This was our first stay at this hotel, the location was lovely and extremely close to the sandy beach. Our room was comfortable with a sea view and the food was excellent, including a family celebration lunch there. It also has access to a nearby sea ferry, and connecting tractor, which takes you to nearby Salcombe. The hotel has its own car park which was really helpful.

Great bank holiday stay

The staff were so personable and helpful from reception, restaurant staff to the lovely cleaning lady😀 Breakfast was really good, with fresh coffee, unlike other hotels where it’s self service from a machine! Great dinners with freshly caught fish specials. Our room was excellent, clean and spacious. Thank you South Sands Hotel-we will be back !

All the staff were so friendly and helpful, the room was great, I didn't fully understand the heating and ventilation but that was down to me. the beach view from the dining room was excellent and the local walks in and around South Sands were great. All the meals we had were 1st class especially breakfast We Walked to Salcombe a couple of times and although its a little hilly the views made up for it. We only had a three day stay but the time passed in the blink of an eye. This was a really great stay for myself and my wife and we will return.
