A beautiful location with a homely feel. Well equipped unit for four, great linen, lovely balcony. We paid more to have a sea facing room but considering how expensive the room was per night (and a lot more than last time we stayed) it’s disappointing that one room at least did not have an en-suite. Towels not changed daily (due to “saving water”), extra cleaning charge of $30 pp for the “two extra guests” even though we booked for four people - surely the room rate should be for four people if it is set up to sleep four? I guess the price increase is due to Covid (?) but it was a lot and with the exclusions mentioned above, quite disappointing.

Thanks for your stay Anonymous. The room base rate has always been for two people, and would have increased by $30 per person when you entered four people into your booking. This is an industry standard pricing practice, and in fact, there is competitors in Russell who actually charge $35 per extra person, so we consider our $30 charge very reasonable indeed. We have cheaper options if our beautiful waterfront units don't suit your needs any longer, so ahead of making your next booking with us, just get in touch with us and we can put you in the room that suits you best. We don't apologise for changing towels every second day. We are absolutely doing it to save water, as Northland is having yet another dry summer and we need to be mindful about our most precious resource.

Hosts were amazing and went out of their way to make our stay amazing ,provided transport to a restaurant and gave apps access to their personal freezer to freeze our fishing catch. Incredible location

Warm and welcoming

Love staying at Hananui, Shane and Christine are excellent hosts. The waterfront location is fantastic. The rooms are extremely clean, comfortable and homely.

Great situation. Perfect for a short walk if arriving via the ferry from Paihia as we did. Near to lots of restaurants for an evening meal. Across the road from an excellent cafe for breakfast. Spacious room with a lovely patio to sit on with a bottle of wine in the evenings.

I stayed in one of the apartments. They are not on the waterfront like the lodge but are still in a great location. Literally a 2 minute walk to the water. The apartments have everything you need for a most enjoyable stay. Just wish I could have stayed longer. Great hosts!

Amazing! Beautiful seaside spot. Units are nicely separated with a fence and privacy is maintained. Facilities are well presented, well stocked with tea coffee shampoo atc and towels changed each day if necessary.

Apartment was spacious and luxurious. All the little extras were in place that make your stay even more special. Private spa that you could book ahead was perfect and had plastic wine glasses so you can safely enjoy a wine. Central location in beautiful Russell. Lodge hosts were particularly helpful and personable. Would thoroughly recommend staying here.

Nice place, the staff were amazing specially the reception lady as at the time of arrival she showed my room and also other facilities. The room was very warm i know its very hot now a days and i can understand that's why it is but i didn't expect that there will be no air condition in room and specially the price you paid ($280 ) plus for that room for one night and that was very disappointing for me but could be my fault as i might didn't read the room description by the time of booking. There was a fan in the room but seriously that's not helped at all was no air so we have to open all the windows and balcony door for whole night, so was bit disappointing with the room facilities. Next morning getting ready for out and found out no hair dryer was working which i let the reception guy straightway. At the last but not least the lodge has a great beach view and very accessible to all the shops and cafe's. Having the air condition in a room specially in summer season will be highly recommend. Thanks

Hi Harman, Your room had doors at the back and front, so could have been kept open throughout the day for great airflow. The hair dryer was indeed working when I went to check it after you told me. The power point has a safety button that you just needed to push once to turn the power on, and the lights on it indicated as such. If you had have mentioned this issue before checking out I would have gladly helped out and you could have left with dry hair. As for our value for money, you did book your room on the day of arrival - New Years Day, in peak season Russell. It was probably the last room available in town and this is what you were buying. Next time you book with us, do so earlier and you will pay the best possible price.

Not for the light sleeper.

Russel was a lovely place to stay. Great places to eat and good walks. The hosts were lovely at the apartments but the apartment was a bit of a letdown for the amount it cost as the walls/ceiling ate very thin so we could hear people in above apartment moving around constantly. Apparently the room had a cheaper rate for this reason but this is not mentioned in advertising.

Quiet and tranquil little place, good restaurants, clean and well looked after amenities. Pictures do not lie, as they sometimes do. Chose to stay an additional night because we enjoyed it so much.

We booked our stay a few months ago and then we received helpful and informative emails regularly. Also the property has beach front units and apartments that are not beachfront. The owner emailed us to ensure we knew this as we hadnt booked a beachfront unit. We subsequently changed our booking and really appreciated the notification. The units were clean and bright with everything needed for an enjoyable stay. The the beachfront units are incredibly well located to eateries, museum,shops. The apartments are also well located. We will return

Lovely night away

Good stay, didn't realise it was the Bay Of Islands Jazz and Blues festival so was glad to have secured some accommodation. Unfortunately there were approx 11 Restaurants/cafes that had already closed for the season which made dining out a little tricky. Accommodation was older but comfortable and well presented. Had a lovely wee glimpse of the beach from our room. The only real issue was the size of the television, quite small by todays standards. Hosts were great.
