Rakaia is a quiet little town that is a nice stopover while traveling the South Island. That being said, there are limited options for dining and shopping in Rakaia.

Chalet was ok but extra bed meant the big bed was too tight to the wall so no bedside table for glasses, etc. Shower not great. There was a very noisy group of boys behind us but they did stop at 21:00 so not too unreasonable I suppose. Hot water instant and good. Lot of flies around in this ...

Great stop for one night to break up a long drive. The room was clean and had everything I needed, maybe was just a bit dark. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Make time in your itinerary to visit the sea creatures at Salmon World during your trip to Rakaia. While you're in the area, wander around the gardens.
