booked and paid for in full online. on arrival had to then hand over my credit card details including the 3 digit security code to register. then had to produce identification which was photo copied. cold night in a cold room radiator was just warm and did not heat the room, it was very dated and in need of face lift. this was my first time at this hotel and certainly my last.

A Great Experience. The outside of the hotel is undergoing renovation, but once you step inside it looks great. Friendly Staff, Delicious food, A Comfy room. I can just imagine the atmosphere on a Bright Summers day, when all of those benches a stones throw from the River Thames are full of locals having a pint, enjoying the view. I'll be back for that.

After the booking was made i was looking forward to the stay. Upon arrival, I was shock, looked like a building site..worse, there was no order, sofers dump out side. Two builders vans park there. I wasnot staying there.

We stayed in The Deluxe River View room and it wasn’t enjoyable. Upon arrival there was a very noticeable musky smell. The floor was peeling which ended up in the bed. Loads of dead splattered spiders on the walls.

The room (15) was basic but tired, paper on ceiling of bathroom falling. Temperature of the radiator and Shower water static at "Warm" in consequence room was barely warm enough an no blanket available in addition to a thin duvet. The hot tap full on with no cold was a just warm shower. generally clean and tidy otherwise

Very run down and disgusting
Absolutely awful run down buidings, room looked nothing like the photis on wedsite, room snelt if damp and old cigarette smoke no headboard, no bulb in lamp, curtains hanging off pole, holes and dnts in doors and walls, no double glassi g and old windows so deadty and very noisey. Mold in bathroom everywhere in ceiling.

Quick stop
Quick stop off before our morning flight from Gatwick. Bed was comfy but pillows a bit thin. Staff nice and helpful. Needs a little tlc but perfectly suitable for an overnight stop. Only issue was the water boiler was obviously above our head and it was rather loud.

The noise of this place was ridiculous. The door opened from inside to out which you couldn’t see if anyone was coming down the ally which felt unsafe. I had people knocking on my door all night . There was empty box of medication in the drawer which should have been disposed of by the cleaner, if cleaned and inspected properly. Would NEVER RECOMMEND OR GO AGAIN

Nice stay read report
We had a room overlooking river and above the bar. We had a nice view but the scaffolding was a shock, room seemed good value but the “shots” that woke us on the Sunday morning was a bit annoying but didn’t upset stay more what’s that noise! Car park was very cramped and it made us use public transport rather than driving after arrival in deer of losing space. The Royal did shock us on arrival as looked a lot like a building site with the scaffolding but inside was lovely and warm feeling, the note is don’t judge a book by the cover springs to mind The room it’s self was nice size and had nice view over London!

My daughter and I arrived at the hotel and firstly thought that it was a derelict building. It is boarded up with iron shutters on the windows and scaffolding all round. After looking, it was open but its in a terrible state. The room we were given was in the ground floor but the window handles were broken. We checked checked out around 8.30pm, so didn't stay as we didn't feel safe or comfortable. We had paid up front so that was a waste of £67.49. We then checked into a Premier Inn at West Thurrock. The Royal Hotel does not look like the advertising on this website, and should mention its having a refurb..if that's what is happening.

Interesting stay for walkers and wildlife
This is an unusual historic hotel in a interesting location. I stayed Saturday night in the annex with a pleasant view of the river. I had a very comfortable king sized bed, there was also a large smart TV. It was a spacious room and very clean. There were some minor decor issues in the bathroom and there have been extensive renovation works carried out to the main hotel building. These were not an issue for me. I enjoyed the quirkiness. Not for those that want immaculate or boutique hotel experience more suited to the eccentric optimist with an interest in other humans and wildlife, particularly birdlife at the adjacent Rainham Marshes.

Checking in took 20mins because receptionist was on phone. Nobody even spoke to me untill I asked a waiter to find another receptionist. Room was clean but smelt like it was damp/mouldy. Checked out after 3 hours.

This is a terrible hotel, extremely run down and dirty, in desperate need of a renovation. No basic amenities not even a hairdryer. Extremely overpriced only positive is the location situated by the riverside. You’re better off taking your money to travelodge compared to here.

Ground floor room had strange see-through ensuite. Also noisy due to smokers at the entrance and revellers leaving the bar and loitering. Poor atmosphere in the bar and no maintenence availability even just to change the light bulb. Great views over the Thames though.

Cheap but not very cheerful
The hotel is not great to stay in if you’re spending a while in the room but good enough to just have a place to sleep, the bed is fine but pillows aren’t comfortable at all and the room was 35 degrees with the window open when the weather was 5 degrees, the towel rack wouldn’t turn off, had to tune the tv myself to get any channels
