Near tourist attraction with free parking permit
A free parking permit is provided for each room. Guest can drive and park near hotel. Besides, it's only around 10-minute walk to the nearest tourist attractions.

Access to reception, and the rest of the hotel was staffed at certain times which means that anyone can walk in off the street and potentially that felt unsafe. The room was extremely small and I would not have wanted to stay more than one night.

Cute and comfy. A bit loud.
We had a room in the cottage behind the hotel itself and it was a lovely room. Bed was comfy and the room was spacious. It was nice to he within walking distance of so many sites. It's by no fault of the hotel, but the people who stayed below us came home drunk at 1a and were really loud - keeping my husband and me up when we had a bit of an early morning.

Quite cold on arrival,took until the morning to warm the room, noisy neighbour till after 12 but otherwise fine, solo traveller away for work & an excellent price so I would still stay again.

I would highly recommend anyone looking to stay in Portsmouth to look elsewhere. The room we where placed in was situated at the back of a restaurant that is not affiliated with the hotel. You have the luxury each morning of the listening to the bin men and/or restaurant workers emptying the rubbish right outside your front door. You also have the pleasure of having two parking spaces right on your doorstep. During our eventful stay, we had 2 random cars parked outside our door and often heard them coming and going in the early hours of the morning. Each night, you can also hear people walking up and down the alleyway as there is ZERO soundproofing in the unit. By reading other reviews, I'm not the first person to have an issue with this. The hotel tried justifying calling this a "room" by saying its beside a cottage that is associated with the hotel. So basically, they placed a bed in the garden shed of that cottage and called it a hotel room. Along with it being a tiny converted shed, there is little to no natural light that enters the room, and there is an smell in that room that comes from the radiator. The genius who designed the room decided to place a clothes hanger right above the radiator, making sure the smell sticks to any clothes or jackets you have to hang there (we had to dry clean two jackets to get rid of the smell as a result). Dear Gearoid,We are sorry that you were disappointed with your stay. The Italian restaurant that you refer to is part of the same building as the hotel and is all connected with the rooms to the rear of the main building. You spent 2 and a half days in the room without complaint and then came to reception at 9pm on a Wednesday evening demanding a full refund. As was explained to you at the time, and in subsequent correspondence, we would have been more than happy to move you into a different room in the main building but you refused. Likewise, as was explained, this would not have altered the size of the room that you booked, the dimensions of which are stated on Expedia where you made the booking, which is what your major complaint was about. We are sorry that we were not able to meet your expectations but we are pleased that you enjoyed the remainder of your stay in the Travelodge :)

On arrival at the property I was extremely disappointed at my choice, particularly after the issues I experience arriving there from Portsmouth & Southsea station, since it seemed far more “low rent” than suggested by the photographs. However, the property was warm & within east access of all the local amenities my son & I wished to access.

Convenient for heart of Portsmouth & sites. Was awoken by a fire alarm 6.15am with no obvious cause. Possibly the 'shared' shower produced steam tgat set the alarm off.

The venue was perfect for our stay. We had been to a wedding at The Square Tower and being within walking distance of a place to sleep was perfect. Parking was easy and the hotel have parking reserved signs for your car so you dont have to pay at the meter. The room was clean and tidy, the bed was comfy. The bathroom was small but clean towels and hot water so we were happy. All in all, a very happy and comfortably stay. We would stay there again.

Duke of Buckingham
Nice hotel in Old Portsmouth, near Gunwharf Quay. The rooms are quite small but nice. Be aware that you may have to climb several stairs to get to your room. The area around the hotel is beatuiful and surprisingly calm, even though we stayed fri-sun.

Perfect location for shopping 10min walk to G.quey. Quiet area. Everything you need plus some suprising extras (hair dryer, iron fan next door to Italian resturant and opposite Chinese take away.)Very friendly staff nothing to much trouble. Would happily stay again.

Really noisy and have started charging for car parking since last visit. Noisy from room above with creaky floor, noisy from road and noisy from adjoining shared bathroom. Tiny room and won’t stay again

We are sorry that everything was noisy. Unfortunately, operating a budget hotel in the city centre tends to be a noisy experience. Next time we would recommend staying somewhere outside of the city centre where it will less noisy for you.

The service staff were excellent and very accommodating. The room in the joining cottage unfortunately was a little tired and the adjoining bathroom had no head room (you had to sit in the bath to use the shower) because of the sloping eve and it smelled of damp.

Good location
The room I stayed in was a garage that had been converted into a room. There was cars and van parked outside the entrance to the room. The room itself is ok, but could do with a deep clean. In the bathroom it looked like poo particles splashed on the tiles next to the toilet. The lady at reception was very helpful and apologetic. She came herself to clean it. The walls around the kettle area had what looked like tea and coffee splashed on them. The bed was comfortable and had a good night sleep. The hotel is based in a good location and easy walking distance to all attractions.
