The first room I was assigned was a bit larger than a closet. When I complained they moved to another room which was fine but the bathroom was so small that if you sat on the toilet your face would be resting on the washing basin. The service of the counter were nice and courteous, Its the hotel that is bad. It is a shame because I had been staying in the Melia since the '70s. This was my last stay with them.

This hotel is beautiful and I'm sure was top of the line in its heyday. But now it's just tired. Here are a few suggestions: 1. When housekeeping comes by, they shouldn't come at 8 AM. We only saw housekeeping 1 day out of 4 and then she only changed towels. 2. On the ground floor there is an open patio with a cigar store. In the afternoon and evening people gather outside to smoke cigars, but this travels directly up to the rooms which overlook the patio. Yuck 3. The wi-fi does not reach to the far rooms. I had to go to a sitting area to use it because my room was too far away. 4. Each day something else stopped working properly. By day 2 the AC wasn't working properly and by day 3 the toilet wasn't working. 5. Some days there was hot water in the shower, others there was not. As I said, in its time I'm sure it was great, but now there are lots of empty spaces where there should be a bar, restaurant, snack bar etc.

The room amenities lacked. There were no luggage racks so our suitcases sat on the floor during our four night stay. There was an ironing board but no iron. The hairdryer didn’t work and I asked for a replacement that was never replaced so I had to go buy one. There were cracks in the tub so the water got underneath the skin of the tub and it felt like you were standing on a squishy pillow. One morning there was no hot water for the shower. No notification about this but when we inquired at the front desk we were told they were working on the boiler. The lobby held it’s beautiful history but unfortunately with the lack of the room amenities we will not stay there in the future.

Hotel Melia is in a great location. We loved the restaurants and coffee bars within short walking distance. But our balcony room had no hot water and was very noisy, due to the Carnaval Ponceno festivities in the.plaza below. The music from the concerts, which went on until almost 1:00 a.m., was so loud that the walls and windows vibrated.

I would call this a boarding house. Good for 1 night . Its clean and we’ll kept. However the bathrooms are closets converted into a bathroom. Sitting on the toilet you will find your knees under the sink!! Additionally, most rooms overlook a courtyard which is noisy 24/7 .. so if you’re looking for quiet.. this place isn’t it. Parking on-site is first come first serve so not guaranteed!!
