Pipa is a small fishing town with some of the most iconic beaches in Brazil, surrounded by forested hills and sand dunes. It is a tropical dreamland with clean air, a cool breeze that keeps mosquitos at bay and a range of exotic animals to see. Surfing conditions are ideal here and on Amor Beach, which is named for its heart-shaped bay.

Wander into the town for a glimpse of the lively local culture. Go to busy bars and restaurants at night and meet some of the friendly local residents and fellow vacationers. It is said that Portuguese settlers named Pipa, which means barrel, after a rock that seemed to look like a barrel of rum.
Lying on an outcrop that juts into the Atlantic Ocean, the commune of Pipa is 50 miles (80 kilometers) south of Natal. It should take 1 to 2 hours to drive between the two towns. Farther south are the beach havens of Baía Formosa and Barra do Cunhaú.
