The view from this apartment is incredible and we would stay again for that. However, a couple of issues were the general cleanliness and communication. The place was in need of a vacuum and many of the plates and glasses had collected dust and required us to rinse them before using. We were also unable to wash the dishes because the dishwasher wasn’t working (probably user-error) but when we messaged the host for instructions, they did not reply. There was also no dishwashing liquid provided to hand-wash the dishes. I don’t want my review to sound too negative because overall we had a very enjoyable stay but I think the place could just do with the better attention to detail, especially for the price we paid. Again, the view is amazing and the balcony is very spacious so you won’t find a better place for that in all of Lake Como.

The property is a good choice for those with a vehicle, as finding transport is difficult otherwise. Taxis are unavailable; while there is excellent public transport at night, there isn't any during the day—we had to drag our suitcases down for about 45 minutes. Considering how difficult the arrival is, it would have been nice to have some bottled water on the first night and coffee the next morning, but neither was provided. The washing machine door doesn't close properly, and the dryer doesn't work well. From those significant issues, it is a decent place to stay.

View was amazing. The balcony was so peaceful and beautiful but we only sat outside early mornings or late evenings...which was ruined by the heavy smokers below us. 1 roll of toilet paper for 3 nights was ridiculous. FYI kitchen soap behind trash can. Unfortunately, the bed and pillows were not comfortable.

Amazing views of Varenna & Lake Como. Good size room with kitchen, living room, bath & laundry area. Could easily sleep 4. Heating worked well. Plenty of parking. WiFi and TV was inconsistent. Bedding and decor was just average, could be way more wow to match the view. Had only a single roll of toilet paper and fridge wasn’t plugged in properly. We had to troubleshoot with the host to fix it. Feels like a family run property, more than a proper hotel. Biggest issue is that its location absolutely requires a car. Without it, it would take 40 minutes to walk steep switchbacks to get to town. Should be stated very clearly upfront. Had to rent a car at the last minute when we realized that taxis and buses to town are scarce, infrequent or nonexistent. The need for a car probably inflated our stay budget about 80% so it might have been better to stay in town. Net net, I would say I’d probably stay here again but would need to adjust my expectations. Prob works well for families or those with cars. But it was a last minute surprise when the 0.31 miles away from Varenna isn’t actually walkable, especially in rain or with multiple bags

Property was not cleaned, spider webs with huge spiders above the bed, staring at them while you sleep. We found a scorpion at the door which was terrifying, the AC worked but did not do much we were sweating during the day and couldn’t sleep at night. The pillows were of such poor quality and approx 2 inches thickness, our necks are sore. The washer machine is broken and no bidet. The pool was also full of bugs. Our biggest problem was access to the apartment. You need a taxi/car to bring you up and down with your luggage, to get to the top on foot is approx 40-45 mins walk and down is approx 30-35 mins walk. It’s very steep and if it’s raining, forget it the stairs/walkways are practically waterfalls. We would walk down on foot daily and struggle to find transportation back up, there is no uber, most taxi apps don’t work here, and town taxis are scarce. On our last day, we had to call 6 different taxis for someone to agree to drive us down! I called them after a few hours of arrival as I realized we were going to struggle but they refused to refund our money and let us leave early. I gave it 2 stars because the view from the top is exquisite.

The place was clearly not cleaned when we visited. There were big dust bunnies on the floor next to the bed, cobwebs and dead bugs in corners. The floor was dirty, not wiped and I don't know what else wasn't clean. The tea kettle had residue in it and there were spiders in the shower and other areas. The only reason this place isn't 1 star is because of the location and the views of lake Como.
