"What I wanted: a traditional ryokan with an onsen, close to both the Nara train station & the Nara deer park. Asukasou checked all the boxes and was within my budget. My husband & 4 year old son and I arrived in Nara by train, and were able to walk our luggage over to the hotel and than go and see the nearby shrines and deer park. We than returned to the hotel where we had the private onsen booked and were able to clean up before dinner. I booked the traditional 10 tatami mat room which had an entryway, a toilet room with a tiny sink, a shower room with a larger sink and vanity, the tatami mat room and a large balcony looking toward the deer park. Unfortunate timing of our trip overlapped with repair of the large shrine which would normally create a lovely view, but it is covered in scaffolding for its renovation. Dinner and breakfast were wonderful. I don’t have the words. Traditional kaiseki dinner and traditional Japanese breakfast, served to us in a private dining room. The kids meals were unreal. So much food for my picky son to choose from. Shrimp, chicken, hamburger, steak, fish, salad, sausage, dumplings, omelet - all on one tray so he could pick and choose! The common areas could use a little love, specifically new carpet. The private onsen was lovely & spotlessly clean, we had a great time making use of that and playing eye spy with my son through the large picture window. My son was so thrilled with our “sleepover” on the floor (traditional futons laid on the floor"

"2 year old hotel conveniently located close to the city hall. Modern and comfortable, quiet as well. The breakfast was consistently crowded but that is due to Silver Week. Really helpful staff. The price of the breakfast was not included for our child and we found it somewhat over-inflated at 23,000 yen per day as a half-price. Would recommend."

"This was my favourite place we stayed on our trip so far. It was so quiet and peaceful both in the hostel and the neighbourhood. It’s about a 20 minute walk to get to Nara Park and you’re likely to run into some deer on your way there as they tend to come right into town in addition to hanging in the park. There are laundry facilities and a smoking area in the back garden. Rice porridge is served each morning and there are free and paid beverages available. There was no staff on site due to the financial repercussions of the pandemic, but the autonomous luggage storage and check-in instructions were easy to follow. I will definitely be returning in the future!"

"Beautiful location, amazing hotel - the rooms were clean, well appointed - live the bathrooms setup - bed super comfortable. We ordered breakfast for the second night - yummy Japanese meal set. This was our favorite hotel in our stay, well appointed hope to return. You need a car because it is remote from public transport, plenty of free parking at the same level as hotel. The staff was wonderful! This place is well worth a journey!"
