  • Today was our first #lksawaydays of 2020 #ukoutandabout We left Reading and headed out to the Wiltshire village of Avebury to have a walk around the Neolithic henge, visit the museum and have some lunch in the Red Lion. Its been over 20 years since the LKs last visited so were looking forward to re-visiting. There are no charges to walk amongst the stones which make up the largest megalithic stone circle in the world, but there are separate charges for the museum and the Avebury Manor. The main car park is £4 for the day but not very big considering the volume of visitors Avebury sees, so if you visit we would suggest outside peak months. The purpose of the the stone circle is unknown but its believed to be a ritual complex, the site is a sacred site to the contemporary Pagans and if you are lucky on your visit you may see Druidic rites taking place. Its a pleasant half day and if the weather is a little moody it can add to the visit too! #avebury #aveburystones #stones #stonecircle

Our bedroom was of good size. However the room was cold although the built in heating was in working order it wasn't sufficient . The management obviously knew and had put an electric rain the room. The bathroom was awful 😞... It was not only very shabby but was like an ice box. No heating whatsoever in there. Plus we couldn't have a shower as being over 70 there was absolutely no way either of us could climb in and out of the high bath. Breakfast ok..... But prefer a buffet style. Staff in every area were good.

Room was freezing and heating locked off whereas colleagues room was too hot and again heating locked off. They offered a radiator and very little apology. Didn’t know how to turn lock off radiator. Breakfast was poor, low quality but the service was impeccable.

Overall very comfortable

I am unable to fault the service as it was excellent. Very friendly staff who cannot do enough for you. Condition of the room could have been better it’s a bit dated and had some minor damage in areas but I did stay in a standard room so maybe the better rooms are more luxury.
