What a wonderful getaway cottage in New Bern! Perfect location and within walking distance of every attraction. Very quiet with available parking. Breakfast was amazing and Mark was the best host.

The house spans two centuries , so cool. That said, the place needs some ‘freshening’ and it is so stuffed with oversized, non-period furniture that it detracts from the ambiance of the house. The listing said nothing about the fact that the bathroom (for my room) was on the other side of two staircases—if I had known I would not have reserved it.

Thank you for the feedback. On the bathroom, to clarify, Expedia does note it in their Bathroom Amenities section as a Detached Private Bathroom (it is our cheapest room for that reason) and had you said something at check in, we could have addressed your concern and moved you to another room with an en-suite bathroom We are sorry for the misunderstanding

We had an amazing stay at “The Captains Stay”. We stayed in the house and the room was large and bathroom was clean and lovely. The proximity to shopping and dining is perfect! Mark and Lori are like family! Breakfast was amazingly delicious! We cannot wait to return! Highly Recommend!

Overall our stay was great! The room is a little crowded but had everything we needed. Mark was pleasant and fixed a very nice breakfast. The property was convenient to all we wanted to do in New Bern.

My son and I stayed in the cottage for one night. My son wanted to stay in a historic house, but have separate beds. A little tricky to find, but the cottage has two queen beds, so perfect! The hosts went above and beyond several times and made a fantastic nutella crepe just for my son. Highly recommend this property!

The location is great, 1 block to the Palace and to the trolley stop. The breakfasts (crepes, scones, eggs, bacon) made by the host, Mark, were superb. Because I am not a fan of Keurig, he made me coffee. There were some snafus, but the hosts did everything to try to accommodate me. Thus 4 stars instead of 5.

Nice little weekend getaway.
My fiancé and I thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay here. We were in town for an educators' workshop at Tryon Palace, and The Captain's Stay was only but a short 5 minute walk away. The lovation is perfect and the breakfast every morning was delicious! A great way to start our day. The bed was also very comfortable and cozy. We look forward to visiting here again, it was so lovely!

Visited charming New Bern for two nights on business 7/26/2022. Beautiful location right in the historic part of New Bern with wonderful hosts Mark and Lori . Charming and comfortable room in a house built in 1860s and nicely de orated with each room having it own theme. Breakfast included is cooked to order and wonderful. Rooms very clean. Walk down the street and you are in historic area of famous history of Bear City. Shopping and dining close and nice. Will definitely be back for further adventures. Thank you Mark and Lori for a wonderful stay.

The stay included a hot breakfast. We had fresh fruit, a yummy muffin and eggs and bacon! Coffee was good and strong to help us get through the day! The B&B is within walking distance to downtown New Bern so a car is not needed. And Mark was lovely!!

Great property...cute, cozy, comfy. We were sad the big house wasn’t open to guests and we couldn’t have our sit-down home cooked breakfast. However, we enjoyed the delicious homemade scones and hot coffee delivered to our door. We want to go back!

Overnight in New Bern
The host was very nice and was available at check in. Breakfast was awesome! Loved the nice historic surrounding area and walkability to downtown. The house itself is historic and has a well preserved charm and associated decorations.

We stayed in two rooms over two nights. Both were very clean, beds were comfortable. We loved the cottage out back! Breakfast was excellent and cooked to order. Marcus aims to please!! We will definitely stay there again.

I would not have booked if I had known the house is left unlocked and unattended. The outside looks unkept and the inside needs a good cleaning and some sprucing up. Pics from the website are old and rating was from 2017 of the bed and breakfast. The house has has lots of charm and the innkeeper was nice but we didnt feel safe staying there.

We are a small Bed and Breakfast and our style is "homey" - we want our guests to feel at home and most do. Our most recent ratings from June and July 2019 have all been 5 out of 5 so we are sorry you didn't feel the same!. Your safety concern is noted however we need to mention that our Historic Neighbor hood is very safe - and it didn't occur to us to lock the door! Aside from that, we rarely leave the house unlocked and unattended but will be more considerate of our guests feelings - we just wish you had told us at the time. One last point I need to clear up is that the day you checked in, it had rained fiercly and was too wet yet to sweep up the leaves that fell on the back patio during the storm - this was cleaned up the following morning when things dried up a bit. We thank you for your feedback and the opportunity to improve.

Outstanding hospitality in old town New Bern - charming, vintage accommodations and furnishings, functional and comfortable; great location, close to major attractions and restaurants; owners very personable and helpful; delicious home-cooked breakfast (try the scones!). I sent my wife there to stay overnight before she dropped off my daughters at camp the next day. Exceptional stay, very friendly, and communication was Tremendous. They exceeded all of my expectations, and took good care of my girls. Thank you Laurie and Mark!!

Great weekend
Our first BnB experience was with Captains Stay. We felt right at home, like we were with family ! My wife is ready to go back, the day we left. Breakfast was delicious. It is so close to both New Bern attractions and eateries.

This is a great cottage in the back of the main house. We love the privacy and comfort. The hosts have great amenities and snacks for guests. Short walk to downtown New Bern which has great shops and restaurants. We stay here every time we visit New Bern. Very clean and comfortable. If you prefer the B&B experience this is a must.

Wonderful place to be
We spent four nights over Christmas at Captain's Stay. This was a wonderful place in every way. We were treated like family. The food was great, service great, and all the people were so hospitable.

The Innkeeper, Craig, is one of the nicest people I've ever met. He did everything to make our stay comfortable. He recommended restaurants, invited us to join him for dinner. His housekeeper is also an angel. In addition to runnin the BnB, they were also taking care of people displaced by Hurricane Florence.

Captain's Stay is wonderful.
Craig created a warm and welcoming ambience for all of his guests. He extended himself to accommodate a diverse and interesting compilation of guests. His meals were bountiful and innovative. The front porch and rockers were especially enjoyed. Highly recommend this lovely inn.

A great place to stay. Our room was large and extremely comfortable. Great bathroom. Everything was clean and perfect. Location was only a few minutes easy walk to the historic section of town. Our host was extremely helpful and friendly that by the time we left it felt like we were old friends. We enjoyed our stay and we hope that we can go back in the future.
