great spot to stay
I had a very pleasant stay at the Bug. Not so many around so it was quite quiet. But I would happily stay another time !!

We stayed at the Bug Backpackers for one night on our way through Abel Tasman. It fit our needs - nothing fancy but we met some great people and the shared facilities were well stocked and comfortable.

Billig og god overnatting
Fint og stort rom. Toalett og dusj i gangen like ved rommet. Nesten bare kaldt vann i dusjen, men ellers veldig bra. Fellesområdene var utrolig trange og ikke særlig tiltalende. Greit overnattingsted med enkel og grei frokostbuffe

Nice hostel with free parking.

Nice seperate unit for our family. Great hosts facilities, only complaint would be the shower pressure was all over the place and I suspect the shower trap could do with a clean out, otherwise was great...

Cosy hostel with friendly people and a lovely atmosphere. The hostel could do with a bit of work as the facilities are a bit worn, but the place makes up for this by having such a lovely atmosphere! It is a casual stroll of about 15 minutes from the city centre which makes it a more quiet and pleasant place. We would recommend it to anyone who asks and would go back there, should we ever come across Nelson again.

A terrible experience! It is nothing with the hostel but all about the guy. I was sleeping in a 4 beds room, a Indian guy came back late and made a lot of noise, spoke cellphone loudly, ate food on the bed, yes! On the bed. He fall asleep without turning off the light. That is ok, I got up to do it. Is it the ending?No! He snored all the night, what a nightmare.I can’t sleep, the dB must be up to 80 or 100. Now I know why the black cat followed me in Picton！

Comfortable and quiet place to stay. Breakfast bread was a little stale but cereal like osts was also provided. Lovely outdoor area:)

The room we stayed in (a studio with double bed, full kitchen and bathroom) was great. Very spacious and the bathroom had a bath. Staff were friendly and available just perhaps not too professional. My only real disappointment was when I went to use the dishes some had not been cleaned properly and this made me question the cleanliness. There was a note for dishes to be cleaned by guests prior to departure which is very fair, however, perhaps this could be checked before new guests arrive. Other than that a lovely stay.

Hi Tracey, Thanks for staying with us and your positive comments. yes we are a bit disappointed to hear of these dirty dishes too and yes our staff should be checking up on these details so thanks for the reminder. Its difficult to enforce for people to clean up after themselves. Should be a standard expectation, but unfortunately not these days. I hope there were plenty of other clean dishes for you to use! Safe travels.

One shower only in the private room area caused a 1 hour backup at one point, otherwise it was great value for the price :)

Hi Chad. Thanks for staying and your comments. Sorry to hear about the shower delay. Unfortunate timing really, however there are multiple of showers/bathrooms in other areas in our backpackers that are able to be used. Safe travels.

Great Hostel
Hostel is great, nice and clean with really friendly staff and nice and quiet. It's a bit of a way out from Nelson centre and the beach but they have free bikes you can hire to get into town and it takes about 5 mins. Would definitely stay here again. G

Unique hostel experience
This was quite different from most hostels I have been to. The owner is very nice and gives you many tips on local excursions. I can't thank him enough. The set-up was qutie unique with several bungalows, backyard, hammocks, etc. Complimentary breakfast was the best I've had so far in NZ. What I really appreciated was that the owner was firm on "silence after 22:00 rule". Some youngsters may not have liked the idea but it was considerate of him to enforce it for all guests.

You will be fine here
Front door straight into the communal area was great, easy to make friends. Only one toilet in one of the room areas means you waited a bit and kitchen was small. Lots of different types of bread and spreads for breakfast and wifi was super fast

Nice cultured hostel owner, dropped me and another guest to my bus station in the morning after my departure. Lovely free breakfast in the morning. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere throughout the hostel. Would stay again if I visit Nelson.

Nice friendly hostel
We thought it good value, had a small twin bedded room and though the room was small the beds were very comfortable. Place was clean and tidy.. Only thing was the walls are thin and there was a lot of noise u til 11.30pm.

Excellent point de chute
Auberge facile à trouver, proche des premiers commerces, et à 30 minutes à pied du centre ville. Chambre spacieuse mais chauffage un peu léger pour l'hiver.

Friendly, Clean Backpackers
I've stayed at The Bug twice -- it's a nice, fairly quiet place just about 10 min walk to downtown Nelson. It's very relaxed and clean, and the owners are very friendly. Definite recommend.

Rundown.
Rundown facilities, yard, appliances, BBQ, furniture in terrible shape. Only one sink for so many rooms. Needs double (or triple) amount of frigerator space. Very unsatisfactory - probably the worst of BBH's we've stayed in ever.
