Very nice accommodations but an outdoor market is behind the hotel, opens early and gets very loud.Ask for an inside room
Great staff, good food, but TV problem was never resolved.
Rooms were clean and facilities good. Good restaurant and bar/ lounge. My only wish was for a fan since rooms have no ac. And also maybe a mosquito net or hook for hanging one. But during my stay had no issues with mosquitoes. Excellent facility.
This hotel has a roach infestation, and needs to be shutdown for at least a week and properly fumigated. The staff was nice, but the roaches are unacceptable. Moving people from room to room, as I was moved, will not change the issue. If a structure or building contains roaches, that means they are in the whole building. If you see one, that means there are ten thousand, I will not be staying at this hotel again.
A good hotel for the price (about £35 a night). No frills but it did the job. There was apparently a gym but it had no equipment in it. I wouldn't normally have minded but I tried to walk around the block and it didn't feel very safe, so having something to do inside the hotel would have been nice. Felt safe inside the hotel because of the security on the door but I did sense some of the staff were hardened to working in the business district.

Awful Experience
My girlfriend and I stayed here for one night and had an awful experience. I used hotels.com to book the trip. I paid upfront for the room and received verification via email. Upon check-in, the woman behind the front desk could not find our reservation even though it was made under my name and she had my passport to verify. After showing her the hotels.com email, she begrudgingly handed us the keys to the room. The room itself was small, hot, and had one towel even though the reservation was made for two. The room did not contain air conditioning which meant we did not sleep with sheets and were exposed to the several mosquitos in the room which bit us throughout the night and interrupted our sleep. In the morning, we went to the lobby and was told that the guide, who was picking us up for a safari, had been sent away by the front desk. Luckily, we were able to contact the driver who had to turn around to pick us up. When the driver arrived, another woman behind the desk said that the payment "didn't go through" even though it had already been paid through hotels.com. In desperation to leave, I handed her another credit card which she charged and further delayed our safari. I've now been charged twice for the same room. Having traveled all over the world, I have never had an experience quite as bad as the After 40 hotel. If you enjoy a good night's sleep and competent staff please book elsewhere.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Location and facilities are great. Staff are also very helpful. Overall, a great place to stay on transit stop overs.
Loved the staff and the rooms. Wifi wasn't really working and they could clean the rooms a bit better, but overall loved my staying and i would recommend it for sure!
It was average and just in line with my expectations. First I was given a wrong that what was written in booking confirmation. Then when I called for service none responded. But the bed is comfortable
I must first say. The staff was very kind and respectful! The guards and bar and wait staff was amazing. However, the hotel was not a 4 star rating. The elevator is a real problem. I was on the 5th floor. When making a request ( summonsing the elevator ). It seems to go pass the selected floor often. There is only one elevator for 1o floor and it’s often used but the staff and maintenance. There no air conditioning. Leaving the rooms very warm at night and no windows to vent the suit. The restaurant didn’t have tradition options for first time kenya visitors. Instead western type options available. At night the staff can be heard several floors down if your staying in the inside rooms. The shower on one day would not get hot, but rather room temperature. The front door handle was broken and during the moring it was left open to allow cool air in do to the lake of air conditioning use.
Nice centrally located hotel. Decor is nice and lounges on 2nd and 10th floor are a nice touch. Activity outside on the street could be intimidating to guests. The hotel has a strong friendly 24/7 security guard presence inside and outside of hotel. Only real complaint was mosquitos which were taken care of after we complained. Rooms were a bit small but overall had a good experience.

Overall okay
I had a one night stay at the After 40 hotel. Overall the hotel is good, and the staff is very friendly. The check-in was slow, and they couldn't find my hotels.com payment anywhere in their systems, which caused a few problems. An email stating that the hotel was paid, and a booking confirmation from hotels.com showing the same, wasn't enough. I therefore had to prove a bank statement and argue with reception a bit, before allowed check-in. I arrived to my room, which had an extremely bad smell, of fish. I rated the room and check-in on hotels.com and shortly after I received a phonecall with an option to change room (very good service). At 6.30 reception knocked on my door, they had apparently made a really bad photocopy of my passport the previous day, so needed to make a new one, at that exact time (not the nicest way to wake up). The breakfast isn't anything special, but there's yoghurt, coffee and eggs. The security, and some of the staff members are extremely friendly. Which helps on some of the minor good stuff. Overall a fine one night stay, with a few annoying episodes.
The downtown setting and surrounding streets are off the average tourist's route, but it's a good look at everyday working Nairobi life. Hotel staff was professional and the facilities was modern, hipp-ish. Nice views from top floor lounge and restaurant.
