FANTASTIC! What a wonderful stay and cannot wait to go back. Sato-san and the entire staff were amazing to us during our visit with them. It made it feel like home. Kudos as well to the Chef and dining staff, so glad we got the board and every meal was stellar! Amazing and cant wait to visit again soon. Thank you so much for a memorable vacation.
We loved our stay at chalet Shiga. Skiing was fantastic. The people at the chalet treated us very well, lovely authentic japenese food and setting. The location is perfect, at the bottom of ichinose. We went at the start of spring season, which did mean some of the slopes were closed, and the buses were limited. Something to be aware of. But, there was still plenty of fluffy white stuff, lifts and slopes. We didn't need to go see the snow monkeys - they came to see us 😀

We stayed in a japanese quad room with a toilet. Shower was shared (and traditional ie, no privacy). The hotel restaurant area and relax area in level 2 has been modernised but the rest of the hotel is quite dated and ready for a refresh.
Breakfast was fine and included western and Japanese dishes.
It was easy access for the buses and to the ichinose family chair lifts. As a fyi, the area is great for beginners but if you want the magic carpet, take the shuttle to prince hotel west - one stop up the road. There was a small convenience store across the road. Dining options for dinner were a bit sparse - the hotel does do dinner but we didn't choose that option.
Overall we were happy with our stay.
There was one guy and a lady worked at the reception during my stay. The lady was very helpful and provide good Japanese service. However, the guy was not polite at all and sounds like a police when he asked us not to bring our food from breakfast to outside coffee area. This is our first time encounter impolite Japanese service. Besides he said he did not know there was a New Year Eve fireworks at Ichinose family run. At last, we have to google and check it out ourselves but how could a hotel reception not aware of this big event just 100m away from the hotel.
Fantastic chalet. Super friendly and helpful staff. Most speak at leaat a bit of English. We went for half board (breakfast and dinner). Amazing traditional Japanese dinner. Smorgasbord of Western and Japanese breakfasts. Amazingly comfortable and pretty common areas. Room was spacious for our family of 4. Beautiful tatami mat area with Japanese table and chairs. TV and hot water urn in the room. We had our own bathroom. Only reason we put 4/5 for roomwas because the room was hot and heater was a bit clunky when you adjusted the temperature. Hanging space for jackets, storage space for bags and other things. Wifi in room but very good wifi in common areas. Teas, coffee water, soda water in common areas. Right near 5 lifts. Bus stop either just across the road to go up the mountain or about 100m down the road to go down the mountain. Free shuttle bus (with lift to pass) takes you through the Shiga Kogen area if you dont want to use interconnecting lifts. Great rental area downstairs. Very competitive prices and great gear. Thank you so much Chalet Shiga. We really enjoyed our stay.
Fantastic location, right opposite on of the ski lifts - with beautiful views of the mountain from our room. The room was simple but all we needed with toilet/sink and kettle. The heater was efficient, keeping us warm. The Onsen and sauna were fantastic and clean - a welcome relief from the cold to relax our tired muscles. Breakfast was excellent with a variety of choice, and the tea and coffee station was a nice addition. We enjoyed sitting in the lounge area in the morning enjoying a cup. The storeroom was very convenient for drying out our boots and boards and it was great that the hire of boots was all under one roof in the chalet. Would definitely recommend this accommodation with friendly staff!
Nice hotel with good options. Our room was next to the street, and because of heavy snowfall, we were considerably disturb by the machines removing snow during late night and early morning.
We stayed for eight nights in Shiga Kogen for a ski holiday in early February. The position is ideal - in Ichinose across the road from the ticket office and ski lifts and a minute walk to the bus stop. Downstairs is a cool bar with nice food, drinks, video screen and the occasional band.
The hotel itself is a little dated and tired, like many in Shiga. The staff are very helpful and kind, but the room was only thoroughly cleaned every second day, and just tidied the other days. The onsen was piping hot, and great to relax sore muscles after a day on the snow. Breakfast was good, with a mixture of western and Japanese dishes. Dinner was also quite elaborate, but too many cold dishes after a long days skiing. I would try to book room and breakfast only, and eat at the bar if you can.
Accueil excellent ´ service parfait ´ personnel aux petits soins ´ hôtel un peu vieillissant mais comme d'habitude à la japonaise ´ d'une propreté irréprochable
