"The best vibe of both staff and lodgers. It was quiet and relaxing yet fun. We partook in most of the free activities like coconut bowling, basket weaving with palm fronds, and touring the medicinal gardens, as well as the paid activities like cave diving, reef hopping and village visit. We enjoyed the free SUP boards and snorkeling gear and laying in the shade on the loungers or bean bags. At one point I watched in the distance the young kids screaming and noisy next door at Blue Lagoon and was so thankful we were at the down to earth and chill Oarsman’s Bay Lodge. Food was great, room and outdoor shower perfect, and bed very comfy. Staff was so kind and helpful, we were on a first name basis with many of the staff and actually made friends with other lodgers from Canada and German by the time they left. Josh, Luke, Andi, Suli, Maria, Ben’s! Thank you so much for your hospitality! I hope we can come back before too long!"
"When we arrived our aircon wasn’t working, at 31 degrees it was a necessity. They did not have another beachfront of the same category available, so they wanted an extra £50 a night( we were there for 7 nights) to put us in the next category. We refused and after a long discussion they relented and put us there for 4 of the nights. I have to admit both properties were shabby and needed an upgrade. The superior property had a hot tub in the outside shower room. It was dirty with about 2in of dirty water with 2 crabs in. Not a good welcoming start! It was impossible for me to get into the water along the whole length of the resort. They have built a protective wall with lots of slippery rocks to clamber over to get into the water, which is full of grasses . A lot further from the resort is a beautiful beach, sadly, it was too far for me to walk. You cannot use it on a Tuesday and Wednesday as it belongs to Blue Lagoon Cruises and they have it for their exclusive use when the ship docks there. The breakfast that was included was the worst I have had on 9 weeks touring. On the positive side lunch and dinner were the best I had in
Fiji, there for nearly 4 weeks. The snorkelling from the boat was amazing, they were extremely considerate and caring. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly with Oscar, the bartender, the star of the show. Needless to say , we left the island early, without a refund!"
"This lodge is not up front about letting you know there is a hefty mandatory per day food charge. I booked through Expedia expecting just lodging but found out after booking my room and the ferry to take me there that there is a non negotiable $20 tender fee and $80.00 op per night food charge. There is nothing on the Expedia site about this and Expedia was not helpful. Unfortunately I booked 2 days prior to arrival and had a non refundable return ticket via the ferry so could not change. There is limited power, no eSIM data and no wifi so I had to keep the booking. Like other island resorts they really need to state up front, before you book, the full cost of staying there. This is an all inclusive not just a room booking as you are lead to believe in Expedia. Expedia is aware an to date has not updated their site. Just be aware the cost is a lot more than advertised. "
"Perfect sized family resort with luxury touches. We are already dreaming of returning. We’ve stayed in tons of properties around the world and this one is a gem. The staff were so nice to our children and we even got some adult time while the kids were in the awesome kids club. Everyone had a wonderful time and the food was also very good, especially the lunch curry specials. "
"Absolutely amazing homestay! The hospitality was fabulous, with generous and delicious portions and the family was so welcoming. The views and ocean were absolutely stunning and the hike was incredible with some truly beautiful scenery. The kids were lovely to spend time with, so well-mannered and a joy to get to know. The accommodation is simple and basic, but very comfortable and excellent value for money. Overall, such a special and memorable experience. Highly recommend!"
"Mai sunset is the perfect resort for people wanting a quiet stay, where you feel like family. The daily snorkelling trips (which are included) are not to be missed! The coral around the island is especially colourful and can see incredible fish at different times. It's definitely the most alive coral reefs we've ever seen in Fiji.
We also went on a manta ray trip, and although we weren't lucky enough to see rays - we had an amazing experience. The ladder on the boat might need to be replaced soon though!
The rooms are a perfect size, the outdoor shower is divine and the rooms have a small fridge too. Every staff member we met made us feel like part of the family and we spent so much time chatting with staff and other guests. We were one of 5 or 7 people on the resort during our stay and it never felt too busy.
We can't wait to return! Thank you Liddi, Paul, Elinoa, Male, Saku, Jay, Ami, Api, Venni, Rusi, John and all the wonderful staff that make Mai sunset the best destination in the Yasawa islands. "
