Beautiful hotel and well located

Beautiful cave room, very spacious. Hotel residence itself was stunning, with beautiful dining area for breakfast and communal couch area. Highly recommend for a Matera stay. Lovely wine from their winery too.

A delightful stay at an unusual, quirky but wonderful hotel. Helpful and friendly staff. Lovely wine too! So quiet and convenient to everything including diverse choice of great eateries. Loved Matera! Shuttle service and parking was also efficient. Definitely recommend Il Palazzotto.

The room was super clean, the staff were really friendly, and the welcome wine was amazing. We switched room types between the first and second night, and this one had awesome natural light and great heating. Only thing was the water pressure—it was a bit low. Still, I’d totally come back here!

Il Palazzotto in Matera is an absolute GEM! From the breathtaking cave lobby and dining area to our spacious, beautifully decorated room, every detail was charming and elegant. Upon arrival, we were welcomed with a glass of Palazzo Zimara Susumaniello, so exquisite it was unforgettable! Breakfasts were delightful, the boutique rupestrian style combined with modern comforts and the incredible Sassi location, made our stay truly exceptional. I would highly recommend Villa Puolo. The staff was outstanding! Enzo cooked for us one night and it was fabulous! Gessica helped us with taxis and our every need and Maria and Asunti treated us like family. There is a small marina right down the hill with cute restaurants, including La Taverna, which was a highlight.

We stayed here in April 2025 and absolutely loved it! The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, providing us with anything we needed. They also provided excellent recommendations for walking around the city, including some sites to see and dining options in the area. The rooms are quiet, comfortable and include everything you might need. Be warned as they are true caves, there is little to no ventilation though it creates perfect sleeping temperatures as you don't have the sun baking in your windows. We absolutely cannot wait to stay here again!
