A sought-after location for many TV and movie productions, including Castaway, these islands are on the A-list of Fiji’s island getaways.

Like a string of twenty emerald jewels, the Mamanucas are an island nirvana straight out of a postcard, or movie poster. Pronounced Ma-ma-nutha, this is Fiji’s most popular island cluster. There’s sheer, unspoiled beauty and a wide range of activities that ensure island living is never dull. Some islands in this chain remain uninhabited yet are still accessible for day trips, so hop on a boat with a few supplies and play castaway for a day.

Relatively simple to reach, the Mamanucas are only a quick seaplane or boat ride west from Fiji’s main island, Viti Levu. The closest jump off point from Viti Levu is Port Denarau, which is a 15-minute drive from Nadi International Airport. The only hard part is deciding which island to choose.

Resorts dot this peaceful archipelago that clusters around the Malolo Barrier Reef. It’s a popular choice for snorkelers and divers, with courses in both readily available. No matter what your level of experience, there's no excuse to neglect the underwater wonders.

Boating is the best way to explore the Mamanuca’s colorful coral reefs. A charter cruise will take you to places only accessible with local knowledge. Get a group of friends together and rent a guide and boat for the day, or go on a trip organized by your resort. Either way, you’ll reach some of the best places in the world to surf the waves, reel in the catch of the day, and snorkel among spectacular coral and tropical fish.

For day-trippers there are lots of cruising options that will take you around the Mamanucas, with plenty of activities along the way.

Whether you’re traveling with family, partners or flying solo, the Mamanucas cater for all budgets and tastes. There are resorts to suit backpackers, families, honeymooners and party people. Whatever your style, and which ever island you choose, the warm hospitality and magical moonlit nights are guaranteed.
