A really welcoming group of people and a quick check in. Typical character building with wonky creaky floors but loads of charm. A bit cold in the room at first but soon warmed up with the heater. Lovely amenities and a great bathroom too. Good pub food for dinner, breakfast was OK (hard boiled poached eggs will always get a point deducted I’m afraid). Will definitely stay again though.
Breakfast was great and room was fine but the noise was terrible. Incredibly loud music right underneath the room until gone 11pm. Expensive concert considering that but might be better if you avoid Friday nights.
We stayed in a family room. It was very spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. We would definitely stay here again. Quality rooms, food and service.
This hotel is OK for days out as the seaside is not far quite a lot to do in Maldon the room is self the floorboards were unlevel creaky the bed was also creaky when you turn over in bed not many channels on TV the wc is down the hall I felt unsafe in the shower as I had to crouch to have a shower as when I went to adjust shower it was loose on the wall and came off in my hand had to wd,40 the hinges on door as it was noisy when I opened it no free parking on site as it states had to use the public car park out the back which charged till 6pm the landlord is a nice person very helpful plenty of tea and coffee and milk in room window had to be proped open the main road is noisy at night with cars up and down all night there is a clock over the road that chimes on the hour 24 hours aday could do with some doing up they don't do breakfast at the hotel and there was no light near the fire escape there is a sink in the room I don't recommend the hotel
I didn't know places like this existed outside the 1960s. Shabby, neglected and well below the standards travellers expect in modern Britain. Cramped room equipped with broken items of furniture. Lighting to fire escape landing, which also served as an alternative access route, not working - fluorescent tubes missing from fitting. Shared bathroom/loo inadequate for no of rooms - and no hot water in loo washbasin. Might have been less to complain about if rate about half of what we paid for triple room for the night, but rate charges was conspicuously poor value. Well located in town centre so could be perfectly good, but requires major investment -- including double glazing to street so occupants not woken every hour by bell in clock tower opposite.
The White Horse is actually a pub that has some rooms it rents out. Pub itself is very tired and 1980s style, although it clearly has its regulars and it is these to whom the pub caters. Landlord is very friendly and helpful, but bar staff is uninterested in non-regulars. There was no 2 pin socket in the room and when I asked the barman if an adaptor could be located he said "They won't have one". I requested that he ask the landlord, who produced one immediately.
The room was very tatty, and there was no back to wardrobe, which made it sway precariously. TV plug had a PAT testing date of 2007. Towels in bathroom had holes in and the Bathmats were stained.
The room was clean, however, and relatively cheap. Perhaps this shouldn't be advertised as a hotel, though?
I turned up to book in at 1500hrs and asked were to park as the booking specified free parking, I was told that the hotel did not have a car park and to use the public car park which was only free between 1800hrs and 0800hrs, so I ended up paying for parking.
Next I asked about breakfast, again the booking stated breakfast cost an extra £7.00, I was told that the hotel did not do breakfast!!!
Rooms were not clean and in dire need of redecoration
Hotel is old but location great. You get what you pay for and for this price it was good value for money. The landlord was great and very friendly. I thought this was a lovely town centre hotel and well worth the visit.
We only booked for the night as we were having our office party in Maldon. We were surprised how poor and shabby looking the room was. To be told the heating wasn't working in the room but they plugged in an electric radiator. We had to walk across the corridor past other rooms for the bathroom. We both thought these days hotel rooms would be ensuite, never imagined they wouldn't be! The shower kept going cold, so all in all not impressed at all.
quick one nighter for a wedding in local venue
Bed was comfortable, kettle for a hot drink in morning,tv. in the middle of high street so good for a morning stroll and a cafe breakfast.
Basic but for 1 night with price booked at cant really complain. Nice people running pub

Disliked: Room comfort
Single and up for party, yes go there
This hotel is on top of a pub. There is loud music until 12am in the morning. So unable to sleep. No comsideration for occupants in the hotel. If you are single and up for party, that is the spot. Good point is near a high street. Bad point , parking is difficult to find
Lousy furniture (obtained from roadside mostly) , painful mattress, no ventilation except window by very noisy roadside. We left one day early - no refund -, and it took us two days to recover. We tried to discuss the situation with the boss, but he appears to be in it for the money only. Shameless guy. We suggest Expedia to consult local tourist information before admitting hotels like this to their list, because this harms your reputation!!!

PUB ROOMS
Room was a good size albeit not ensuite and slightly dated. Pub staff were friendly and helpful on arrival and the previous reviews of this accomodation seem rather harsh
