"The owner of Hotel Les Goelands is a gem of a person. Although we had a bit of a problem checking-in, he more than made up for our inconvenience with his conscientious, affable and charming personality. Hotel Les Goelands is a lovingly operated family business that has been in existence for 90 years. We enjoyed having "Grandmother's Special Cake" for dessert on the evening we had dinner in the dining room. Delicious! The breakfasts at the hotel were also very tasty. Hotel Les Goelands is indeed, a very special place, only a short walk away from the center of Saint-Jean-de-Luz. In town, be sure not to miss the Mercado Les Halles St-Jean-de-Luz and the simple, but wonderful oyster bar in the building. Market days vary according to the season, so check before you go. "The first room #16 was totally unacceptable with damp and mold settling around the vent. Not at all what we were expecting. After complaining we were upgraded to the largest room in the hotel which is what we thought we would get in the first place. The best part of the experience was meeting the chef, Olivier Lataste who created sumptuous meals for us. "

"La Frégate feels like a weathered beach lodge. It is clean and comfortable and the ocean view (and constant sound of the waves) is everything! The staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast was nice (for an additional €13) and the reception area features a full bar, where you can conveniently order a café or cocktail. The local buses go into Bayonne, Biarritz, Guethary or Saint Jean de Luz. Bedding and bathroom were comfortable. I wish the balcony windows had screens, as small flies appeared on warmer days. But overall, it was a wonderful stay. We recommend this hotel. "

"We stayed three days and it was fine. The furnishings were basic. The property is very poorly equipped in that you need to provide your own washing up liquid, sponge, drying up towel, dishwasher tablets, loo cleaner, hand soap etc. . There is nothing to eat or drink provided by the owners - no welcome pack… first stop the supermarket. Bedding and towels are the minimum too and if I was going again, I would take my own towels. You have to pay a 500 euro deposit and clean up and remove the dirty linens when you check out. Car park is super tight, spaces are ok size but there is little space to manoeuvre. The people on the reception and by email were delightful, there is a nice swimming pool and grounds to walk around. The area is surrounded by campsites and there are a couple of casual restaurants within a short walk. Convenient for the coast path and a nice walk into the town - 30 mins plus each way. "
