Demeures de campagne Château de Fontainebleau – Mercure
8/10 Good
"This Hotel is nicely maintained and has a good attention to detail. Examples of this being the cold water dispenser in the lobby. The pool area is perfect with a good mix of shade and sun and really refreshing in the summer.
The staff are fantastic and the bar serves drinks nicely. Our room was okay though in need of a few updates but we did have a basic class room. They have more modernised bathrooms in the higher class of room which could be worth the money. The bed is large and comfortable. The curtains black the room out well.
One thing that is great in the room is a smart TV that actually works properly and doesn't have half its features disabled. Very nice feature when you are from abroad.
My only complaint is the restaurant which I wouldn't recommend. The setting is lovely but the menu is very limited, and there is no lunch menu for cheaper lunchtime options. It's over priced and trying to serve fancier food but without the quality to back up the price. We ordered a steak which was small and not cooked to order. When I sent it back they got closer on a 2nd attempt but still didn't seem cooked to medium rare properly. The steak also didn't feel high quality to me. No simpler options like a burger or a pizza. It's not awful but feels like missed potential and I think there are better options out the hotel.
Would highly recommend this hotel!"
"Nice hotel close to Paris outer ring road, easy to find and great for overnight stop.
Breakfast very good , evening menu limited but food also very good."
"Overall, we had a pleasant stay, but for the price, there are several areas that need improvement.
The biggest issue was the dirt walkways throughout the property. They made it difficult to roll suitcases and left our shoes and clothing dusty. A paved surface or ground covering would make a huge difference. The entrance area also looked untidy, with items stacked against the wall and landscaping that could use more attention.
We reserved the spa for our family, but it was too small to comfortably accommodate everyone, especially with other guests present. The relaxation area only has two chairs, and the spa shower was out of service, leaving just one small changing room with a shower.
The included breakfast was excellent, dinner was average (about 6/10), and the Sunday brunch was very good, although expensive at €45 per person.
The staff were friendly and hardworking, although the hotel appeared understaffed. Despite hosting a wedding during our stay, it was very well managed and didn’t disrupt our experience. A special thank you to Jeremi at the bar, who was excellent, although the bar lacked some basic equipment to make several cocktails we requested.
The rooms were comfortable, and the setting was peaceful. Our only disturbance came from noisy guests returning late after the wedding.
In the end, I judge a hotel by whether I’d return. For nearly €2,000 for three rooms over two nights, I’m not convinced the property offers enough value. With some investment in the faci"
"Shower unit was rusty in one corner . Was not aware that no transport from hotel to zoo was provided for elderly and infirmed people. My wife is 81 and walked with a stick so found the walk to and from zoo exhausting . We had booked VIP experience at zoo so had to do the walk or lose the money"
