The room was clean, and the property was well kept. However, the front desk clerk I encountered could benefit from a refresher workshop in customer service. Not only was I not greeted upon my arrival, not once did she smile, and my questions were met with body language and facial expressions that indicated she felt that she was being put out by having to answer them.
Later, I asked another front desk staff member if they could recommend places to eat, and except for a couple of restaurants that I could see from the motel, they were not able to name any other restaurants.
Helpful and knowledgeable staff can cause a traveler to overlook minor inconveniences (like staff not knowing area restaurants), but sullen, unwelcoming staff will negatively impact whether a guest returns or simply looks elsewhere for accommodations when in the area.
