Africa Wood New woodland "planted in 2005 to commemorate the Battle of Trafalgar 1805". Why "Africa" and why commemorate Trafalgar here? The answers can be found at http://www.treeforall.org.uk/trafalgar/AboutTheProject/ and http://www.treeforall.org.uk/trafalgar/TrafalgarWoods/Otherwoods/Africa/ The Trafalgar Project was instituted by the Woodland Trust to plant a wood for every ship involved at the Battle of Trafalgar. HMS Africa was one such ship. She was a small two decker, built in Deptford in 1781, and played an early role at Trafalgar, having arrived before the bulk of the British fleet. She was eventually broken up at Portsmouth in 1813. Her captain at Trafalgar, Henry Digby, was a Dorset man. Further naval connections with this site are firstly the role of nearby Bridport in rope making for the Trafalgar fleet and secondly the fact that the Mappercombe estate, on whose land it is planted, was the home of a distinguished Admiral, Sir Victor Crutchley VC, KCB, DSC, DL, RN, until his death in 1986.

located in the small downtown Lyme Regis, easy to go to the beach, shops and restaurants it is an very old inn, very tradition english wooden building, downstair is the bar and restaurant, a bit oily smell, beware of no air-con

Set in beautiful surroundings with lots of walks on your doorstep and two local dog friendly pubs that serve food. The owners are lovely and helpful in person and replied to our messages very quickly before we came. The accommodation is very clean and really cosy, dog friendly being a plus. Will ...
