"I stayed at the Avon for three nights during a multi-week ADV motorcycle trip through the Southwest and Colorado. Unfortunately, the weather in the San Juan Mountains had other plans for us, and we got thoroughly washed out. That made me even happier to have the Avon as my home base in Silverton.
The location is incredibly convenient, right in the heart of town. There is a large kitchen available for guests, a spacious second-floor patio, and even a hiker box where hikers can take whatever they might need for the next leg of their trip. It has exactly the kind of practical, relaxed atmosphere that works well for hikers, motorcyclists, and anyone traveling through the mountains.
But the best part of the Avon was the people. I rarely stay somewhere where I meet such an interesting and enjoyable group of people to talk to. Maybe the miserable weather helped bring everyone together, but while it poured outside, we had an absolute blast inside.
After three days, the Avon felt less like a hotel and more like a gathering place for travelers with good stories to tell.
I would stay here again anytime. Five stars and highly recommended."
