「Loved staying here. Room was huge and spacious--much bigger than other hotels in Japan. Neighborhood was quiet and it felt like an experience to be in a more residential part of town than others. That said, it wasn't as close to shopping/restaurants, but there are still plenty of options around. We found that the bus was sometimes more convenient than the subway, and a good way to see the lay of Kyoto. It did take a little bit to get used to the automated system of checking in, but totally fine...
