  • On 14 April 2016, a massive earthquake (magnitude 6.2) struck Kumamoto prefecture and damaged numerous structures of the Kumamoto Castle complex including the main castle. Routes and pathways were still open and available for visitors. During our visit, efforts for reconstruction of Kumamoto castle were under way as can be seen in the background of this photo. The Uto Yagura turret (foreground), on the other hand, survived the quake and remains intact.

ホテル自体にはそれほど不満はないのですが、隣の部屋に泊まられたスパニッシュが夜中の1時からどんちゃん騒ぎを始め、寝ていたのを起こされるということがありました。フロントに対応を依頼し、暫くして静かにはなったのですが娘の受験のための前泊でしたので眠れない騒音は本当に困りました。受験生組を同じ階に固めるなど少し配慮があると有り難かったかなと感じました。隣の声、テレビの音、フロントからかけて頂いた電話の音など良く聞こえましたので隣のテレビ台とこちらのベッドが壁を挟んで設置してあるのだと思います。音に敏感な方は気をつけられた方が良いかもしれません。

私のような人間（マラソンランナー）にとっては、ちょっと不満な宿でしたが、普通の人でしたら、もっと評価が高いかもしれません。それは、バスタブがなく、代わりにシャワーになっていることです。もう一点の不満は、目覚ましが標準整備してないこと。今回は、受付に申し出て、貸し出しをしてもらいました。

フロントの方々はとても感じがよく、近隣の施設について質問した時も朝食の時間の変更を希望した時も臨機応変にご対応いただきました。ただ、部屋の冷蔵庫の中に飲み残しの水のペットボトルが入ったままでした。そうすると、部屋の他の部分も清掃にも不安を感じてしまいます。フロントの対応が大変良かっただけに残念です。

提供された部屋は元々ホテルが推しているようなオシャレなものではありませんでした。わかってはいたのだけれど、羨望もなく暗く狭く快適性の無い部屋でした。生ビールサーバーが設置されてあり、一杯目はウェルカムドリンクかと思いきや200円の徴収有り。立地は街中でアクセスは良かったです。
