Come for the views, stay for the farm animals

Went to the Kaaterskill to escape the doldrums of daily life and connect with nature, and that’s exactly what we did. You do not go here for the service, you go here for the serene environment, picturesque views, and pet therapy - and, for that, it does not disappoint. While there were minor hiccups along the way and it takes some persistence to connect with staff, the slight inconveniences were well worth it. Pro tip - bring lots of bottled water (i couldn’t tolerate the sulfur smell of the tap but maybe that’s just me). All in all, we are already anxiously awaiting our next trip back.

Groovy, pretty farm with smelly water on tap

Eclectically decorated, pleasant and peaceful farm, with animals, out in the countryside. It has lots of character, and our room was very attractive, and I liked having a fireplace. I can imagine kids really getting into the llamas. For the price, I was surprised there was no housekeeping. My main complaint was the water smelled like sulphur, and that really bothered me. When I collected it in a cup there were black flecks in it too. The jacuzzi looked lovely until I smelled the water. The breakfast was not very healthy: cake and cheap sugary yogurts, fresh fruit. There were little things they made me question how clean our room could be: throw pillows on the bed that can't be laundered; upholstered headboard on the bed; sliding glass doors wanted washing... In a home I wouldn't think twice, but in a hotel? It seemed expensive for the fact there was no front desk service too. Some people wd probably love this place and some would hate it.

Great

The room was very cozy and comfortable and had everything we needed. Very comfortable bed. Nice view of the pond and barn. Good location, close to Kaaterskill Falls and a short drive to Woodstock.

Underwhelmed

We booked same day, so we didn't receive the check in instructions until we called, and there was nobody on the property. I had to call the main number, then a different number on the reservation, to get ahold of someone. Wish it said it was self check in on the listing. Service was non-existent. The fireplace? We tried to use it and grabbed some firewood from outside but it was too damp. Was there anyone to help? No. A bit disappointing. The farm itself is out in the middle of nowhere and very quiet, cute animals and location. Bed was comfortable. Ok in a pinch but I can't say it was thrilled.

Beautiful setting, attentive service and lovely room with a fireplace and jacuzzi. Farm animals made if a weekend to remember.

The Kaaterskill

First of all they changed our booking. We were a party of 3 adults and reserved a room with 2 double beds. They called our cell phone the day before arrival saying we had a room with one King size bed for 2 people. The woman that called was very hard to understand but said we could stay in the 3 bedroom cottage which turned out to be the "Farmhouse" for the same price. Just before we arrived we received an e-mail stating that the key was in the door. When we arrived and saw our accommodations we left. The place was dirty, sliding glass door on enclosed porch had gaps and was full of wasps. The deck outside was only partially completed. Only one hand towel in the bathroom and the toilet was dirty. There were no employees anywhere and when we called the phone number given to us the message was in Spanish. We had to travel 20 miles to find other accommodations. We went back the next morning and spoke to the property manager who said it should not be rented and agreed we should receive a refund.

Well.....the room was wonderful , it was super clean ,the sheets smelt so fresh and the bed was very comfortable and the view of the catskill mountains and the farm was lovely. I brought my boarder collie dog and was very surprised at how clean the room was considering they allow dogs. The bathroom was very clean and the tub was huge, however the smell of rotton eggs from the water reminded me of Florida well water and was so strong I couldnt bathe or brush my teeth with it. There is a small kitchenette with small refrigerator that has 2 bottles of water which my sister and I used to brush our teeth. There is no front office or desk which is fine so long as you know that in advance , there is a separate farm house that houses the care takers and they were very nice and gave us directions to the nearest convenience store so we could buy more water. (The store being about 12 minutes away.) There is a wonderful array of farm animals as well as Llamas on the farm and some walking trails and a river that boarders the farm. It feels like it is a retreat for yoga enthusiasts and or buddhists ,or free spirits...the art work in our room and in the Hall was, interesting and some were.. a bit creepy? We only spent a night ,but the views from the huge windows and the ample size and coziness of the room was very pleasant after a long day .

The room was very well maintained and clean. However, with the amount we paid during off season, I thought the room was going to get housekeeping service. Nope, there is no one at the property.

We love to visit the Kaaterskill whenever we can. It's a beautiful inn filled with eclectic art and great character on a large and beautiful property. Hiking the various paths and visiting the numerous animals that live there is a favorite activity. And we particularly love the cozy fireplace and the wall-of-window views of the landscape in every room.

Odd experience

When we arrived, there was no one at the Inn! The owner was unaware that we were coming, due to Orbitz not communicating with them! She finally showed up and gave us a key, then she left. We were the only guests at the Inn, which is way out in the woods. It was kind of spooky! There was no one there all night except us and we had a clogged toilet and no hot water! There was no one returning our phone call to find a plunger. The property is magnificent, it’s a very cool little farm!

Picturesque and relaxing hotel...but needs TLC

Property was really beautiful. The farm is great, full of animals. The rooms are relaxing and the fireplaces are a pleasure, however there's man of things that seems simply neglected or not thought out. For example: broken lamps in our room, a small speaker to use for music (but had NO cords with it so unusable), wood provided for each room but the wood was so unseasoned that you could not burn it to save your life (seriously - I went out and bought a duraflame), a kitchenette in each room, but no soap or scrub brush so you couldn't wash your dishes...and since there's no maid service while you're there, dirty dishes stack up (as does garbage). Beautiful place, but there's a lot of little things that are just neglected here.

Kaaterskill Killed it

booked a last minute get away in the country. This place was perfect to disconnect from the world for a few hours . Farm fireplace and friendly people ...simply fantastic.
