Spend a few memorable days in this railroad town mingling with friendly locals, exploring the scenic wilderness and recreating Nebraska’s Wild West heritage.

Experience charming hotels in historic buildings, family-friendly activities and gorgeous lake reserves at Imperial, a town rooted in tradition. Located in the heart of Nebraska’s Chase County, Imperial embodies the friendliness and pioneering spirit of Midwest America. Visit Wild West-era landmarks or take a hunting trip to immerse yourself in the enchanting small-town lifestyle of its locals.

In town, enjoy shopping and family fun. Browse stores selling rare fabrics, figurines and antiques before heading to the Imperial Theater for a movie. Take the kids to cool off in the county swimming pool or play a game at The Imperial Lanes, a six-lane bowling alley.

Imperial was founded in the late 19th century on the Burlington Chicago railroad, which allowed the town’s economy to flourish. Experience the town’s history while enjoying some old-fashioned hospitality at the Balcony House. This striking building, which now houses a bed and breakfast, was originally constructed in the 1890s to be Imperial’s schoolhouse.

For more history, admire the Jacobethan façades of the Chase County Courthouse, built in 1912. Afterward, visit the Champion Mill State Historical Park to see a restored water-powered flour mill from the town’s earliest days.

Take an outdoor adventure into the natural reserves around Imperial for a rejuvenating daytrip. Explore the scenic landscapes of the Enders Reservoir State Recreation Area, a 4,000-acre (1,618-hectares) park with a vast lake. In summer, take a boat onto the water and try fishing or water skiing. Camp amongst nature at well-maintained campsites around the reserve.

In winter, Chase County becomes a paradise for hunting. Take a guided hunting tour to shoot for pheasant, quail or deer amongst the attractive countryside.

Imperial is approximately 5 hours’ drive from LincolnOpens in a new window. It is best to bring a car to get around town.

Be sure to visit Imperial in August to see the Chase County Fair. Enjoy lively country music performances, carnival rides and a spectacular car show.
