oceanside hotel, easy walk

Great location easy to walk, small island , hotel renovated recently very neat, scrubbed clean. We found the town is quiet at night, inexpensive easy bus system, island is worth staying to snorkel, watch boats, fish, dive, good beach or enjoy quiet Caribbean lifestyle. Enjoyed the ferry ride over the volcanic vent (Kicking Jenny) and beautiful bird life. I would recommend a day excursion to see island and get historical perspective.

We stayed at the Mermaid Beach Hotel over the Christmas period. Jude our host was wonderful and I cannot speak more highly of her. However, we were very disappointed with the property itself. We booked this hotel as it was advertised that it included a beachside restaurant and bar. However, this was not the case and the hotel restaurant and bar was shut the entirety of our stay (except for when they opened for a private corporate Christmas party that went until 2am). Carriacou completely shuts down over Christmas for 4 days so we had limited access to food. It would have been nice for the owners to contact us so that we could have made alternate arrangements over the holiday period. We also advised the hotel through Expedia that we would be arriving for a late check in, however we never heard back from the hotel and then found out the property had been taken off expedia for future bookings. When we arrived late at night the hotel was completly shut up, and we had to make alternate accomodation arrangements which was an additional out of pocket expense. Jude was amazing and has been with the hotel for years, however the owners need to take more care when booking guests into their property.

Best location to stay in Hillsborough, the oceanfront room was large and comfortable and the gorgeous beach below was a delight. The staff were friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend the Carriacou breakfast!

Overall a pleasant stay, good breakfast which was included in the price, staff were pleasant, particularly when they became familiar with u. A bit noisy at night /early hours of the morning g, but it was carnival weekend. This was very interesting.

Nice beach location

Our ocean front room was very comfortable and the very thoughtful housekeeping staff found our wet clothes on the line and secured them with pins to keep in place. Location was great right on the beautiful beach and within town for easy walking to shops and restaurants. Found a fun rum shop just down the beach and had a great pizza.

Birthday Dream Blues.

On yr advice i contacted hotel direct to ask for a special request. It was my birthday and my dream was a 1st floor room overlooking the beach. I wanted to sleep with open curtains to see stars and sea on my birthday. Despite agreeing request by email 30 December when i arrived over 2 weeks later i found my promised room had been given to someone else days earlier. Hotel tried to blame hotels.com till i showed them their email. We asked for Manager. No response. No explanation. Why werent we warned before? No note. No card. Not so much as a biscuit. Nothing. My longed for Birthday dream? They did not care. Expensive hotel but dont believe them. Cowards, liars or both?

Lovely big room, comfy bed and wonderful views of the ocean. All staff were very friendly and it felt like home. Meals in the restaurant were very tasty, but depending on how busy they were, sometimes there was a bit of a wait. WiFi was good in most areas but unfortunately not in our room.

When we booked the property at Grenada we did not realize that it is 40 minutes away from the airport and we had to ride a boat to get there. that is why everyone in Grenada does not know the beach, We paid for it but never went and can not cancel it. We lost all the money and booked another hotel. I searched Grenada and that was one of the first ones that showed up. I learned my lesson thought Grenada was only 1 big island. There should be something in the blurb that would say so so other people do not make the same mistake.
