The man on staff upon arrival was kind, friendly, and made sure we got settled in! He had tons of local food recommendations, and a few very cute cats in the office. A truly pet-friendly motel- and exceptionally clean to boot! We'll definitely be staying here in the future.

A really nice Route 66 experience. The staff was super helpful and friendly. They really cared about maximizing my guest experience. If I am traveling through Grants, New Mexico again, I will be staying there. I highly recommend the Southwest Motel. A really good value.

My stay at Southwest Motel was fantastic! The room was clean and the couple managing the property (who checked me in) are super nice, kind, and helpful. It was an added bonus staying in a classic, retro, iconic Historic Route 66 motel! I would definitely recommend staying here.

A really nice hotel room along route 66. Friendly staff and a quaint dog friendly stay next to the national park. We really enjoyed this place and would gladly stay if we make a return trip to El malpais.

Looks are deceiving. Very shady looking on the outside but for an old original Route 66 motel, it’s super clean and cute. Pets re free so that was a plus. Staff was super nice and friendly and had a lot of good food options nearby. Bathroom could be updated but really enjoyed the night there.

The gentleman in the office upon my check-in was very kind and helpful! The room was so cozy with great amenities (microwave, fridge and freezer, coffee maker with real coffee - although I didn’t make any, it was appreciated), and a surprisingly spacious bathroom. The bed was super comfortable too! Vintage charm.

An old time Route 66 motel, the South West offers clean (albeit small) rooms, excellent front desk service, and amenities.

This place is a gem. If you are looking for the route 66 experience, this is it. Clean rooms, decorated with care, and pets stay free! In fact, our room had a blanket, food, and water bowls, and mat just for our dog. The owners and staff were very friendly and we had a good time chatting with them. The coffee set up in the room was great, too, with real ceramic mugs. Next time we drive Route 66, this is where we will stay.
