Gladstone which includes interior views
Capricorn Coast which includes dining out and food
The coral cays of the Southern Great Barrier Reef, sandstone wilderness and lakes brimming with barramundi are all within easy reach of this busy harbour town.

Explore offshore islands and dine on freshly caught seafood in Gladstone, an ocean-fronting town in the heart of a region of the same name. Stroll along Gladstone’s marina parklands and enjoy harbour views while you plan your next trip on the Capricorn Coast. Adventure isn’t hard to find in this exciting region, where pristine coral reefs and forest-fringed lakes are just a short distance away.

You’ll find an informative visitor centre on Gladstone’s picturesque waterfront. Walk along the paved esplanade that extends from the marina and spot fishing boats coming in to moor. Have a coffee at the marina’s café while you select from a range of tour operators and options. Catch the local ferry to reef destinations or embark on a sightseeing tour of the region’s breathtaking offshore coral cays, which are framed by ribbons of white sand. Head to Heron Island, Curtis Island or Wilson Island and snorkel or scuba dive to see some of the area’s diverse marine species up-close. You might spot turtles, manta rays, clownfish and dolphins.

Kick back and enjoy family-friendly swimming spots at Boyne Island and Tannum Sands. Take a refreshing dip or cast a line at Lake Awoonga, where barramundi and mangrove jack fish are among the species you can hook. You’ll find barbecue facilities, shelters and long stretches of walking paths at these destinations.

Take a day off adventuring to learn about Gladstone’s heritage. Check out Tondoon Botanic Gardens or stroll up to Auckland Point, a hilltop lookout that affords expansive views of the town’s harbour and industrial architecture. In nearby River Ranch, you can explore the Calliope River Historical Village and breathtaking hinterland scenery. Rent a four-wheel drive car to tour around the rugged outback tracks in Calliope and Miriam Vale.

Reach Gladstone by plane to Gladstone’s regional airport or Rockhampton, situated a little over an hour’s drive north. Choose from luxurious island resorts and modern hotels for your accommodation in Gladstone. The relaxed seaside hamlets of Agnes WaterOpens in a new window and Seventeen Seventy are 90-minutes’ drive away.

Lovely clean room, staff pleasant and helpful. Couple of minor things, no light above the kettle and tea making area in the cupboard. It was very difficult to fill the kettle under the tap to the sink in the bathroom, in fact we used one of the mugs to fill it!
