"We stayed for one night checked in late and out early and my son was bitten over a dozen times during the night all over his body. The hotels response was rather inappropriate and concerning. See below: They refused to offer any compensation and asserted that we should have known to purchase repellent from the vending machine. We have traveled all over Europe and never experienced this type of treatment. We were not told at check-in that this may occur and never dreamed of purchasing repellent from a vending machine. They do not care about their guests or their comfort and their lack of empathy is appalling. Even worse Expedia was not willing to offer compensation besides a $25 one key credit. We are no longer customers of Expedia and highly recommend travelers avoid this hotel at all costs. Shame on you Gateway Ghent and Expedia for not providing a safe experience for your guests.
