Rarely do you get to witness something so simple but so magical ✨✨✨

Spending the evening boating in the Sine Saloum Delta, famous for its mangroves, I was lucky to witness the nightly migration of thousands of birds to this particular mangrove, where they rest and spend the night. This event is called as the ‘reposoir des oiseaux’ or ‘putting the birds to sleep’ Within 20 minutes the entire mangrove was filled with birds... one of the very rare places that’s untouched by swarms of tourists. It’s a world heritage site and a protected area and I hope it remains this way for eternity

「We loved the Ecolodge de Simal. It's really off the beaten track (quite literally so), but once you get there, the location is wonderful: right on the water. We were there for three nights. The food was plentiful, fresh, and tasty; the free activities (like a excursion en pirogue) was wonderful; the pool is chlorinated and clean; the rooms are rustic with open air bathrooms and toilets, but comfortable; the housekeeping good; the bar/restaurant staff friendly. It's not a "luxury"...

「This was a rustic lodge on an island off the coast from Missirah. Despite challenges finding the boat launch and getting the pirogue to take us to the lodge, we had a good stay. The hostess, Kiki, was warm and inviting. The property felt a bit tired (I think many properties in rural Senegal have this from the lack of tourists during the pandemic restrictions), the place had a number of activities to try.
